Dinner passed rather uneventfully, Clarke had irritated Lexa a couple of more times, and vice versa, Indra had told Lexa a story she had already heard countless times before, Clarke pretended to be iterested in the story that even she had heard three times now, and Clarke and Lexa fake bickered some more, Lexa ending every sentence with 'Fine'.

''Maybe 'fine' can be our always,'' Clarke had joked, to which Lexa had laughed and nodded. ''Fine.''

Now, it was the morning after dinner, and Lexa's first full day in the city of her dreams. As a child, she had always called it the city of light, because she had once seen a picture of the New York skyline, lit by what had to be a thousand lights. Lexa loved lights. Which explained why she was currently in Bath and Body Works, buying candles to decorate the guestroom she would be staying in for a while. Indra was with her, sharing her opinion every now and then.

''No, that one smells like my grandmother's feet.'' ''I like that one, it reminds me of chicken.'' ''Thanksgiving dinner? Yes, definitely Thanksgiving dinner.''

Lexa laughed at each of her aunt's well-phrased thoughts. ''I'm not sure the people here at Bath and Body Works would appreciate all of that, Aunt Indra,'' she chuckled. ''Well, should I be more positive, then?'' her aunt asked. Lexa nodded. ''That might be a good idea,'' she said. ''Alright then. Oh, look, Honolulu Sun. Well, how lovely, they stole some sun sweat and put it in a candle. Oh, that one is called Rainforest Gardenia. Sounds like a great idea, taking more nature from an already endangered area. Good job!'' Indra spoke sarcastically.

Before Lexa could respond, she heard a loud laugh behind her. She turnded around to see one of Clarke's friends. ''Hello, Lexa. That must be your aunt, Indra,'' the girl spoke. Lexa nodded. ''Yes. Aunt Indra, meet...'' ''Octavia,'' Octavia said, holding out her hand. ''Hello, my name is Indra. I am dyi-'' ''Yeah, that is my aunt,'' Lexa interrupted, saving herself from having to hear it again. ''I take it you don't like the candles we sell here?'' Octavia asked Indra.

''My niece told me to be more positive, so let's say they smell like a Saturday morning back when I was a teen. I worked at a farm, Saturday was cow cleaning day,'' Indra said, to which Octavia laughed. Lexa picked up another candle, and Indra managed to pick up the name. ''Pure white cotton? If we wanted a candle that smells like cotton, we would have just lit some cotton balls on fire. But that back, Lexa. No, don't grab another one! Mocha latte swirl? Lexa, if you want a Starbucks drink, we will go to fucking Starbucks,'' Indra sighed loudly. Lexa rolled her eyes.

''You know what? Fine. We will go home, I will come back later, because I happen to like these candles,'' Lexa gave in, already tired of her aunt's behaviour. ''Sorry about that, Octavia. I'm sure we will meet again,'' Lexa apologized as she put back all of the candles. ''It's fine,'' Octavia laughed, watching the girl and her aunt walk away, picking up some of the words the two shared before they were out of earshot.

''Wait, Lexa, didn't you want to buy candles?''

''So, what else happened?'' Raven asked her friend. ''Nothing. Like I said, I made them dinner, heard the same story from her aunt about a thousand times and then left,'' Clarke sighed, putting her head in her hands. ''Then what's got you all frustrated, then?'' Raven asked. ''Just... stuff.'' ''Just stuff?'' ''Yes, Raven, just stuff,'' Clexa sighed. ''I'm not buying it. How did you end up cooking dinner for Lexa and her aunt anyway?'' Raven asked, still not understanding. Clarke sighed loudly.

''Fine, okay, so I was walking around Central Park and I see this girl sitting on a bench and she was crying and you know I can't stand people crying, right? So I moved closer and I saw it was her, you know, I saw it was Lexa. And I sit down next to her and we don't really talk for a while and then she starts talking and tells mne about her aunt and how she had a brain tumour and wanted her to stay for more than a week and I told her I'd help her and next thing I know I'm offering to make them dinner. Dinner! Dinner, Raven, dinner! '' Clarke huffs out. ''Yeah, heard you the first time. But... you can't cook for life?'' ''That's exactly my point!'' Clarke runs a hand trhough her hair.

''So?'' Raven asks. ''So what?'' ''Did you mkae them dinner?'' ''Yes. Mac and cheese. And they liked it, I guess, and Lexa's aunt, Indra, told me I was white, which I already now, because I mean, look at me, but okay. And she kept repeating the same thing over and over and halway through dinner forgot we were eating dinner and said she was surprised to see dinner was already served and Lexa was a mess but a beautiful mess and we agreed that fine would be our always,'' Clarke rambled. ''You're making less sense than usual, Blondie, and that's saying something,'' Raven told her friend. ''Shut up,'' Clarke groaned.

''Why did you offer to make them dinner in first place, if it's got you so worked up?'' ''I don't know! She looked so lost and sad and heartbroken and kind of like a kicked puppy and it made me very upset to see her that way. And it's not the dinner that's got me worked up,'' Clarke said. ''Than what is?'' Raven asked. ''I just don't understand why bad things happen to good people. We try and try to be the best person we can be and in the end shit just happens and it's so unfair.'' ''I know this is cliché, but life is unfair,'' Raven shrugged. Clarke nodded. ''It really is.''

The two friends were brought out of their pensive state by Clarke's phone ringing loudly. ''It's O,'' Clarke told Raven after checking the caller ID.

''Hello?'' Clarke answered.

''It's me. I was wondering if-''  ''Octavia, shut up,'' Clarke interrupted her friend. '

'Okay, okay, sorry. Anyway, why does your puppy look so sad?''

''My... My what? Octavia, I don't have a fucking puppy,'' Clarke huffed.

''I'm talking about Lexa, you idiot. Why she look so sad?''

''Why are you asking me this? And when did you see her?''

''A little bird told me you were with her. A black one. I think it was a raven. And I just saw her at work.''

''Bath and Body Works? Was she okay?''

'' I don't know, she had this sad look in her eyes. Her aunt was hilarious though. Kept shitting on all the stupid names.''

''Her aunt has a brain tumor, she found out yesterday. Her aunt knew for months, told Lexa yesterday.''

'' What? Well shit. Fuck. Holy shit. Fuck a duck. Wow. Shit.''

''Very eloquent, Octavia. But yeah, shit.''

''Fuck. Well, eh, I'm about to drive, I'll be at our place in ten. See you. Love you, bye.''

''Love you, bye,'' Clarke said just before she hung up.

''She'll be here in ten minutes,'' Clarke told a curious looking Raven. The three girls had shared a place since about a month after they graduated high school, even though their parent's still lived in New York. Raven was studying something scientific at NYU, Octavia went to Harvard, decided she hated it and went to study literature at NYU, and Clarke still didn't know what she wanted to do. Her mother wanted her to become a doctor, like herself, but Clarke's dream had always been to open a flower shop. Her dream came true, but her mother wasn't as happy. When her daughter came out as bisexual shortly after, that was it. Abby lost all pride she had in her daughter, which wasn't much to begin with, and now the two barely ever talked to each other. Clarke kept convincing herself that she didn't mind, but she did. She basically had no parents now. Her father passed away, her mother didn't care about her. But Clarke cared. Clarke always care a little too much.
