Love is something you crave, something you need. You want it from everybody, your spouse, your parents, even your pet. But someday, you will want it from your child. So what happens when you are faced with a possibility of losing something you never had the chance to hold? To say 'I love you' to. Hell. That's what it feels like.

It was a normal day at Seattle Grace and Jamie thought it was going to be a normal day, until Chief Webber told the residents the news.

"We are merging with Mercy West." Those words slipped out of his mouth like it was some type of poison. Everybody groaned as Jamie stayed quiet, looking at an empty locker space.

"The residents are outside this door right now, please welcome them and treat them like our own. Thank you." Chief Webber tells everybody as he lets the residents in. Jamie stays frozen, trying hard to hold back tears.

"Hey! You can't put your stuff there!" Jamie snapped at the red head, pushing her bag out of her locker. Jamie gets everybody's attention in the room, but she doesn't care. She is in grief.

"Oh yeah? What are you going to do about it? Sleep with me like what you did with the guy that jumped in front of a bus for a stranger?" The red head fires at Jamie as Jamie's eyes fill with rage.

"Screw you!" Jamie pushes her as she cries loudly. Alex tries to pull her away from the girl, but she fights against him.

"You don't understand! You don't know what it's like to lose somebody close to you, somebody so sweet. I don't need you to mess with me! I don't need this merger! I don't need anybody!" Jamie screams as she pushes past Alex and Meredith, storming out of the locker room.

A little while later, Jamie is sitting on an abandoned hospital gurney with her head leaned against the wall. She is writing in a chart, as she notices George's handwriting scribbled in the chart along the Doctor Comment section.

"You know, nobody wants to be alone." A voice says to her as she looks up at the male. He was tall, but not to tall. Buff, but not to buff. He was perfect to her, tan skin, beautiful blue eyes.

"I have come to terms with being alone, ever since my friend died, I'm okay with it." Jamie tells him, he can sense the pain in her voice though. He didn't like the pain, he thought to himself that maybe, just maybe, he could change that pain sometime while they know each other.

"I've lost someone once, my father, I never really knew him, but I have grown up with friends that have a father figure, and I always thought that I didn't need that. I could survive without one. So, I blocked out my mom, I didn't let anybody into my life. I thought that if I got away from everybody that the thought of having a father figure would go away. It didn't, I still think about it all the time, but I don't block anyone out. If I didn't have people by my side, I wouldn't be where I am today. You need people by you. You can't be alone." He tells her as she looks into his eyes, knowing that he was right. People shouldn't be alone.

"Why did you tell me that? That's something personal, and you don't even know me. You don't even know my name. Why are you being so kind to me? I just yelled at one of your people." Jamie questions as she looks down at his orange scrubs. He chuckles at her, as he sits down on the gurney.

"Well, you're different. And I like different. I think you just need to know that people will always be there for you, even if you don't know them. And plus, Reed needs to know her place here, it was good you snapped at her." He smiles lightly at the brunette.

"I never caught your name though.." Jamie trails off, hoping for an answer from him. He smirks at the girl, standing up.

"It's Jackson, Jackson Avery."

"It's nice to meet you, Jackson. I'm Jamie. Jamie Bay."
-
"Jackson, I'm scared." Jamie mumbles as he grips on to her hand, walking toward the OR.

"Baby, you're going to do fine, I promise. The baby is going to be healthy, it's just being stubborn like me. Don't worry, I'll be with you every step of the way. Remember what I told you when we first met?" Jackson wonders as Jamie puts on a weak smile.

"That I'll never be alone." She whispers as he bends down, kissing her lightly.

"Dr Bay, Dr Avery, we are ready. Jamie, I promise you, you're in good hands." Doctor Kimberly smiles at her patient. Jackson lets go of her hand, as they wheel her into the OR room.

"Please don't mess up, this is my family in your hands." Jackson warns the doctor, as she gives him a fake smile.

"Go comfort her, Doctor Avery." She snaps as she walks into the scrub room, scrubbing in for the C-Section.

Meanwhile, Jackson sits down on the surgical bench, putting on scrub shoes. He sighs as he places his head in his hands. He's scared out of his mind. The thought of losing Jamie haunts him.

"You need to know she's going to be alright. Going in there like how you're acting right now is going to make her freak out, Jackson." Meredith warns him as she sits down next to him.

"You know, Meredith, I would listen to you, but not after what you put Jamie through. I'm very sorry Derek is gone, but you pushed everybody in your life away. I never thought you would push Jamie away. She was miserable, and I tried to make her happy, but I couldn't. You need to understand how hurt she was." Jackson tells Meredith as she stands up, shaking her head.

"I understand what I put her though, but she needs to understand I wasn't thinking. My head wasn't clear. I know she would do the same if she was in my shoes. I'm sorry for what ever I put you and Jamie through, but I'm not sorry for leaving." Meredith looks at him for a few seconds, but then turns away. Jackson doesn't have the power to chase after her, he needs to be with Jamie.

"Dr Avery, we are just about to start." Doctor Kimberly tells him as he sits down next to Jamie's head. She looks at him with fear in her eyes.

"Jackson, I don't know if I can do this." Jamie whispers as a tear falls from her cheek. She closes her eyes in pain.

"Jamie, you can do this. I know you can. I love you." Jackson kisses her forehead, as he glares at a Doctor Kimberly. Doctor Kimberly nods her head in return.

A few minutes into the surgery, Jackson is looking at Kimberly's work, while he has a hand on Jamie's head. Jamie watches the way his face softens. Suddenly, everyone moves to the other side of the room, carrying a small little person.

"Is our baby okay?" Jamie asks Jackson in panic. He looks at her as he moves quickly to his daughter. In a few seconds, Jamie hears the room fill with crying.

Jackson walks over to Jamie with tears in his eyes. Jamie starts tearing up as Jackson shows off there baby.

"She's so beautiful." Jamie whispers as she sticks out her hand, weakly. Jackson nods his head, smiling lightly.

"She gets it from her mama. What should we name her?" Jackson asks as he looks Jamie in the eyes.

"After my mom, Abigail Avery."
