Chapter Nineteen - Mr Fix-It
"Hey Jess, how's it going?"
It was Wednesday afternoon and Megan had got off school early.
She still had to catch up with Tommy once he had finished school and so she was killing time in the playground next to the field.
She had seen that Jess had already called her twice during school so she had called her back guessing that she mustn't have had school today.
"Hey Megan. Oh my gosh I have something huge to tell you."
"What?" Megan could basically hear the smile that had spread across Jess' face as she spoke.
"My foster family is moving back to Australia!"
"Oh my gosh what?" Megan had definitely not expected that.
"We're moving to Queensland, Yeppoon. I know that's still a little way from Canberra but at least now in the holidays I could fly to you or you could fly to me."
"Why? I'm not following." Megan was becoming more confused and yet elated each second that Jess spoke.
"Well, the owner my foster home, Barry, has been offered a job at the University of Queensland and he took it. There's only six of us in the foster home which means it isn't too bad for them to move. We're getting this massive house on water and I've already been enrolled to school. I can't wait!" They spent another hour talking about what Jess' move would mean.
While she had loved her time in America Jess really couldn't wait to get back to the comfort of Australia.
It was 3:50 when Megan saw Tommy making his way across the field.
"Hey Jess, Tommy's just coming now. I have to go but we really have to talk more about this. I'm so excited and congratulations." Megan's smile grew as Tommy neared.
"Ok, yes we definitely have to talk later. Have good night and say hi to Tommy for me." Jess hung up at the same time as Megan dropped her phone into her bag and jumped off the swing she was sitting on into Tommy's arms.
"Hey beautiful, what's up? What are you so happy about?" Tommy asked Megan as he pulled away from the hug and into a kiss.
"Wellll...Jess is moving back to Australia!" Megan practically yelled as she danced around in front of Tommy.
She paused for a moment and looked up at Tommy. "Oh and she says hi." Then she went back to dancing.
Quickly Tommy dumped his bag on the ground and joined in.
A few minutes later they were lying on the ground laughing at themselves.
"That's great Megan, I'm so happy for you guys. Now you'll be able to see more of each other. Oh and I say hi back."
The rest of the afternoon was spent playing more soccer.
They did their warm up drills and then went into one-on-one.
To soon it was 6 o'clock and they started to pack up. 6:30 was when Tommy's old soccer team occasionally showed up to do warm downs from their training.
