Steins Pov
I was sitting at home staring at a blank computer screen. This world is so boring there is nothing to do. I sat up from my hunched position. I need a change. I need something new in my life. Then as if on cue, I got a phone call. I put my feet up against my desk and pushed myself across the room to the ringing phone. I reluctantly picked up the phone, "Hello." "Hey there Stein. Long time no see." "Sid? Why are you calling?" "Lord Death needs to see you?" "Now. I'm doing something quite important." I inform looking at the still empty computer screen. "Yes. Now." I sigh and hang up on him, not even bothering to heal the rest. I pull out a cigarette, and put it between my teeth. I lit the end, and I toon in a deep breath. I held it for a second and puffed it out. "I wonder what Lord Death needs this time?" I said to myself. It was about a 35 minute walk from my house to the DWMA, and I enjoyed my stroll, but I eventually got there, and headed up the stairs. While, walking students were passing me left and right. Some would just run right past without a thought, some took a double take at the strange man, aka me, walking to their school, and others just flat out stared. Despite all of the inconveniences, i did eventually make it to the top, and Sid was standing their waiting. "Welcome Stein!" Sid greeted. "Well you sure do look happy to see me." I commented. "I always greet old friends with gusto. That's the kind of man I am." He explained. "Anyway I'll take you to Lord Death." I nodded, and we began to walk. We walked in complete silence. We eventually got to the Death room, and Sid took a step back. I reached out to open the door, when Sid put his hand on my shoulder. "Good luck. You're going to need it." I ignored Sid and entered the room. Right from the get go I could see Lord Death. He greeted me as well. "Stein! Nice to see ya" "Lord Death. Nice to see you as well." I looked around the room, it was still exactly the same. Except... "Where's Spirit?" "He said he wasn't feeling really well. He knew you were going to be here. I wonder why he didn't show up, and push through his badly timed illness." "Yes I wonder why too." "Well anyway let's get down to business." His arms shot out from under his cloak, and in his left hand was a paper. He handed the paper to me, and I glanced at it. "What is it?" "An assignment. I need you to go to (y/c/Your city)" I glared at the peace. "Why don't you make the kids do it." He signed. "Last month this assignment was on the board. Three teams went to (y/c) to get the kishin, and all three ... failed." "What about the other teachers?" "I had sent Jean and his weapon a month ago to go collect the soul, but... they failed too." Not Jean, I never liked the guy, but still. "Please Stein. We don't need amateurs or professionals. We need the best. We need you" he finished. I thought for a moment. What do I have to lose. "Okay. I'll do it." "Really?!" I just nodded. "Oh goody. I'll tell Spirit to..." "No. I'll be doing this alone." I turn and head for the door. "Are you sure?" I turn to face him. "Positive." I finally made it out the door, and I passed by Sid. "Thank you Stein." I just shrugged it off. Maybe this is what I need. A challenge.
