Chapter Nine
"Like FBI type of agent or like an insurance agent?" Austin asked me as we walked off the bus and headed towards the front door of the school.
"Like FBI, or like Shield, or that DC equivalent of Shield." I told him as a shiver almost went down my spine. The look that the agent gave me was creepy, almost like he already knew that something was going on with me.
"Wow!" Austin sounded like he was a little too excited about this. "Why does all the exciting things happen to you?"
I laughed. "If you would have asked that three days ago I would have said you must be crazy but now..." I opened the door to the school with a sigh.
"So did any new powers show up over night?"
"I wouldn't really call it a power, but Adam flushed the toilet on me while I was in the shower."
"Ok?" Austin cocked his eyebrow at me.
"And I didn't feel the water change." I turned my head to look at Austin. "In fact I don't even know if the water changed at all."
"Oh!" Austin eyes widened a bit.
As we walked down the hallway something caught my eye. Turning my head I noticed it was my locker, which still had the me shaped dent in it. I couldn't believe this all started just yesterday. Shouldn't I be freaking out? Why did this feel normal to me? I was less confused about my new found strength than I was during puberty. Was it because I like comics?
"Earth to Felix." Austin turned so that he was walking in front of me, making me almost run into him.
"What?" I glared at him, just barely being about to stop in time.
"I asked you if you were going to conjure up the courage to ask out Minda to the dance now that you've a superhero."
Giving a bitter laugh I gave him a good push. "I wouldn't call myself a superhero, so far all I've done is break some things."
Austin gave me a smack on the back. "Soon."
I shook my head and started towards home room, where wouldn't you know my brother and his goons were standing outside with less than friendly looks on their faces. I watched as one of the lug heads tapped Adam on the shoulder and pointed my way, and my stomach feel. Adam was holding his helmet in one hand the dent showing proud and true.
"Hey fag, get your ass over here." Adam yelled at me.
I gave Austin a defeated look before walking over to Adam. "What do you want?"
Adam glared at me. "Mind explaining this?" He held up his helmet so that it was right in my face.
I bit my tongue as I thought of saying, 'it's a football helmet, you meat brains wear them to protect you pea sized brains.' "What do you mean?"
"The dent."
My eyes traveled down to the helmet that was the same size as my foot. "Do you really think I could do that?"
Adam frowned.
"Come on Adam, I'm weak little Felix." I mocked his voice.
"You could have used something to dent it." He pointed out.
"True, but I would have had to break into your truck, dent the helmet and put it back right where you had it." I tried my best to talk my way out of this one.
As Adam decided whether or not to let me go Frank walk up to the group holding another helmet in his hands. For some reason my eyes locked on to him as he walked. Something was off, as he got closer I felt every inch of my body tensing and a voice in my head screamed to get away from him.
"Here Adam, it might be a bit old but it's better than nothing." Frank showed off his helmet.
Adam sighed as he looked at the thing before looking back at me. "Fine, you're off the hook." I could hear his voice but I couldn't look away from Frank. My breathing started to get labored and my head started to pound as I grew dizzy. "Hey fag, you listing to me?" Adam asked as I felt something push against my shoulder, knocking me backwards against the lockers. Instantly my body crumbled and slid down the lockers.
"Damn it man. You didn't have to push him so hard." Ron chuckled.
Adam drew his brows together as he looked down at me. "I didn't." I looked up at my brother my breathing getting harder.
"This is the guy you thought dented your helmet." Another of Adam's friends said. "He can barely stand on his feet."
"Yeah..." Adam shook his head as the bell for homeroom rang.
"Shit man we're late." Ron grabbed onto Adam's arm and practically pulled him away. "Come on."
Clearing his throat Adam nodded his head. "See you later nerd." He waved as me as he walked away with his friends.
Austin ran over to me and held his hand out to me. "You alright man?" He asked as he helped me to my feet.
I looked over at him and nodded my head. "Yeah." My breathing went back to normal and the pounding in my head turned into a dull ache. "I'm cool." My eyes went back to Frank who was almost running beside my brother. "Yeah I'm cool."
