When It Hurts [Father!Levi x Mother!Reader]

[NOTE: This one-shot touches up on Postpartum depression, a condition that can occur after childbirth to a mother. Due to this, the one-shot MAY be shorter than usual.]

You sat in your room with all of the lights turned off, and you had your knees tucked up to your chest. Sharp pains erupted in your stomach, as you hadn't eaten for a couple of days. It was like you lived without even living, and you hated it. A soft knock on the door failed to capture your attention, but your husband entered the room. Levi sighed heavily at the sight of you on the bed alone, and he said softly, "Dinner's ready."

"Not hungry," You replied half-heartedly. Levi approached the bed and sat next to you, pulling you into his lap carefully. He tucked your head against his chest and just held you for what seemed like hours. You felt the need to cry, but you just couldn't do it. Levi gently rubbed your arm and you asked, "Do you love me?"

The question came out shaky, and you nearly choked up at the word "love." Levi rested his chin on top of your head and he answered softly, "Of course I do. You're the light of my life...and I want to help you in any way that I can."

Tears welled up in your eyes, and the urge to cry became unbearable. A soft sob escaped your mouth, and you held onto Levi's shirt tightly as tears slowly streamed down your face. It had been at least a month and a half since Percy had entered the world and she/he (your choice really i mean idk) did not want you. You were simply unable to bond with your own child, and that hurt. Levi had taken up all of the household responsibilities while still trying to help you get better. He would comfort you and, evidently, allow you to release any emotions that had been pent up inside of you. Between sobs and tears, you managed to choke out, "I want Percy."

"Of course, let me go get her/him," Levi responded, standing up from the bed and exiting the room. About a minute later, your raven-haired husband reentered the bedroom holding the baby in his arms. Percy was fairly small for his/her age, but it didn't matter to you. Levi sat on the bed and you sat up on your knees. He gently set Percy in your arms, and the child gazed up at you, confused. Tear stains remained on your cheeks and you smiled softly at Percy, whispering, "Despite what's happening, I still love you. I love you when I'm happy, when I'm sad, when I'm angry, and even when it hurts...I am always going to love you, Percy."

The baby in your arms reached up and made grabby hands at you, confusion still laced in his/her expression. You gently rocked the child in your arms while Levi pulled you into his lap. He rested his chin on your shoulder as he told you quietly, "See...it's getting better, (f/n). You aren't a terrible mother, and you never will be a terrible mother."

Percy looked at both you and Levi and began giggling, waving his/her hands a little. You smiled fondly at the child and offered your index finger, to which he/she held onto with both tiny hands. You felt more tears well up in your eyes, so you buried your face in Levi's shoulder once more as a couple of sobs escaped you. He gently rubbed your back and whispered softly, "It's okay, (f/n). It's alright. You're doing a great job. It's okay."

"I...I love you b-both so much," You stammered through the tears, glancing at Percy who gave you a small look of concern. Surely, the child had no clue as to what was going on, but he/she knew something had made his/her mother emotional. Percy tugged on your finger lightly, and when you looked at the baby, he/she gave you a smile. Happiness flooded your system and tears of joy ran down your cheeks. Levi chuckled lightly and kissed your bare shoulder before he said, "You'll love him/her when you're happy, when you're sad, when you're angry...and even when it hurts. Just like I will love you...both of you."

FORGIVE ME, MY CHILDREN. I do know that this is definitely a shorter one-shot, but I feel that with such little knowledge about the condition, I shouldn't be writing like two pages of stuff. And I also chose the name Percy because it is a universal name that can be used for males and females so yeah.
