I made my way through the large brown doors and into the school's open foyer. Girls stood in circles, gripping their books to their chest as they whispered to each other. Jocks joked about something or another they did on the weekend while they gaped as more girls walked by.

It only took minutes to find my locker and homeroom, and even then I was late. I hurried into the classroom, crashing into a large body. Laughter surrounded the class, and I stepped back, examining my victim- my teacher.

"And who might you be?" The teacher asked, turning around to face me.

"My name is Poppy. I'm new." I said, clutching my books to my chest.

"Yes, I assume." The teacher mumbled, "anybody in this school wouldn't have just walked on in like you just did. It's bad manners." The class erupted in laughter, and the teacher seemed to be in no rush to make them stop. He achieved his goal.

"I'm sorry. It won't happen again."

"Go take your seat." The teacher snapped. I complied, walking up the row of people, taking an empty seat at the back. The teacher resumed his lesson, I hauled out my binder and a pen, scribbling down anything I found useful.

"Poppy," I looked up from my books to a boy sat next to me, "nice name."

"Thanks." I mumbled, focusing back on the teacher. I had no intrest in making him despise me more, there was time for chatting after class, if he was still interested.

"Poppy? Are you paying attention?" The teacher asked, all faces turned to me.

"Um, yeah." I replied, placing my pen down onto my desk.

"Well then, you will have no trouble in telling me one englargement or reduction rule for translation." He smiled, I mentally laughed, he thought he caught me off guard. I wasn't an idiot.

"If 0<k<1, the image is a reduction of the original figure. Multiply the original first and second coordinates by k units to get the coordinates of the image."

The teacher's smirk dissapeared and he turned back to the board, "correct."

The boy beside me smirked, "you're one of the first people to stand up to Mr. Harris, good job."

I smiled at him, "Mr. Harris? That's his name?" I whipered back.

The boy nodded, "Poppy, would you like to sit with me and friends at lunch this afternoon?"

I laughed, "I'm not supposed to go to lunch with starngers."

"You're not supposed to talk to them either, but you're breaking that rule too." The boy smiled, "my name is Calum."

  I smiled, "nice name."

"It's not nice to mock people, Poppy." Calum said, through a smile.
