I heard music as I entered the room, but all I saw was a guitar laying on the floor.
I had been wandering around the castle. I needed to clear my head and walking through the ancient structure that I called my home did just that. I made a quick turn down another corridor and silently padded down the cold stone steps. My eyes scanned over the stunning paintings and other works of art that lined each hallway. With each step I took, I let my hand drag along the bumpy stone walls. Fires burned brightly in their torches and allowed me to see the reflection of my bright red hair in the silvery shields displayed on the walls. God, everything was just so beautiful.
I had created this place many times in my mind, only being able to see the outer walls from my home in the sea. But even my imagination couldn't conjure up something as breath taking as this. The human world just never ceased to amaze me.
I continued down another corridor, trying to keep quiet. Eric said I shouldn't wander at night. Suddenly, I heard music coming from behind one of the large doors. I thought of turning back, not wanting to be caught, but it only stayed in my mind for a moment. The music was just so beautiful. I had to see where it was coming from.
I made my way to the large red door and carefully twisted the golden knob. A small room with the same gray stony walls came into view. There was nothing in it except for a guitar lying on the floor. It was a stunning instrument with its wood the color of sweet caramel and the strings silvery like the moon. But, there was something wrong. The strings were lifeless and limp and there were no signs that anyone was even in the room.
The melody still floated through the air. However, it wasn't the soft, gentle tune I originally thought it was. It was darker, more haunting...and strangely familiar. Soon a quiet voice, almost like a whisper, joined the music.
"Poor unfortunate souls, in pain, in need," the voice sang. Oh god, I knew that voice anywhere.
Suddenly, her image filled the dim room.
"Ah, my dear little mermaid, we meet again! Oh, you didn't think this was over did you?" She cackled loudly. "The fun has only just begun, my dear. Oh, and by the way, you should have kept the tail!" Her maniacal laughter filled the room once more before she disappeared from my sight.
She was back. Ursula was back. The sea witch I had thought dead for so long had returned. And she wanted her revenge.
