2 years ago, I was 14, the summer before I met Amy. I had just met another group of girls at a summer camp. They were those girls who just intimidated everyone. I called them "the dark souls", but not to their faces of course. I was alone at this camp, my parents sent me there because they were going on a job related holiday, and the manager of the camp is my aunt, so they knew I would be safe there.

One afternoon I was sitting alone in my room, and the dark souls walked in. My heart started beating uncontrollably fast and I didn't know what to do or say. I had no clue what they were doing in my room. They stood at the door and stared at me. I just stared back as I didn't know any better.

"You Aaliyah?" The blonde one asked.
"Aye, and you guys are?" I asked, trying to sound tough, even though I was on the verge of peeing my pants.
"Cut the cheek Latino. We need your help" said the girl standing to the right of the door, as she twirled her ginger locks around her fingers.
"I'm not Latino", I laughed. "I'm just extremely tanned but I'm not Latino. I'm as American as you are, I'll take it as a compliment though."
"Listen", said the blonde. "I'm Cassidy. This chicka to my left is Bea" She said pointing to the ginger girl.
I looked at the third girl, confused as to who she was, and why Cassidy didn't introduce her. She intimidated me the most. She had the darkest black hair you could imagine. She wore the darkest shade of lipstick and all she wore was black. Her eyes were bright green and she had pale white skin.
"And I'm Lady. You don't need to know my real name till I know I can trust you. I own everything here and I own everyone here so you don't wanna cross me, understood? I'm here because I know you can help us with something that no one else around here can. You in?" She eyes me up and down, waiting for a response.
"What's in it for me?" I ask suspiciously as I continue to ask, "And I need to know what you want before I agree to help you."
"What's in it for you? Do you know who we are? I told you not to cross me bitch. You in or not?" She asks, starting to get mad.

I began contemplating whether or not to agree to this bizarre thing which I had no clue what it was about. As I began thinking more into it, I realised I could get something out of it.

"You seen me around, Lady?" I ask, beginning to walk closer to her, trying to seem stronger and braver than I really am.
"Yeah, and?" she asks, walking closer.
"So you know ain't nobody got my back here, none of my friends are here and I'm basically alone", I said.
"Yeah?" She asks, looking confused.
"I help you with whatever you want, and I can hang out with you guys and be part of whatever this is." I offer.
"Sure" they say and walk out.

I went out to the tables for lunch and I suddenly saw the dark souls motioning me over to their table.
"Yo Aaliyah come sit here!" they yelled.
I walked over and put my sandwich down.
"So what do you want from me?" I asked.
"You're Ms. Carol's niece aren't you?" asked Bea.
"Mhm", I replied.
"We need the key to her office. You can get it for us easily", said Cassidy.
"Why do you need the key?" I asked confused.
"Nothing big, we just need our phones", they said.
On the first day of camp, Aunt Carol takes everyone's phones and locks them in her office, so I could understand the urge for them to want their phones after not having them for the past week. But I didn't know whether I should believe them or not.
"All this for your phones?" I asked suspiciously.
"Yo we ain't lying, you can tag along if you like", they suggested.
I decide it might not be such a bad idea after all.

The dark souls and I waited in my room keeping an eye on Aunt Carols office which was right across the hallway. As soon as she came out I ran up to her and started crying. I made up a sob story about how I miss my parents. She comforted me till I stopped crying, so before I left I hugged her and carefully took the key out of her pocket. She walked away and I motioned the girls over.

We opened the office door and went in. We started looking everywhere for the hidden phones. I opened a small unlocked safe and found them all there.
"Yo guys! Look! I found them!"
We all took our phones but decided to have a look around the office.
Bea opened a cupboard and called us over, it was full of all kinds of sweets.
"Who wants to have a sleepover in my room tonight? These sweets will last us till the morning!" suggested Cassidy.
We all agreed, so we gathered as much sweets as we could into our jumper pockets, and we legged it to Cassidy's room.

We played a game of cards, but it eventually got boring so Bea suggested we play truth and dare.
"Who's going first?" she asked, excitedly.
"Ask me first", said Lady.
"Okay", said Bea, "truth or dare?"
"Dare", shrugged Lady.
"Okay, I dare you to take your top and bottoms off for the rest of the game", said Bea, giggling.
"That's it? Okay", said Lady as she took her black turtle neck and black ripped jeans off.
She was wearing a matching bra and knickers, both black. I must have been staring but I didn't even realise that I was till Lady pointed it out.
"Why you staring Aal? You gay or something? That's nasty", she said, with a disgusted look on her face.
"No, I wasn't looking, and I'm not gay", I said defensively.
"Okay calm down guys", said Cassidy nervously. "Who's next?"
"Someone ask me", I suggested.
"Okay I will", said Lady. "If you had to fuck a celebrity, who would it be?" she asked.
"Rihanna like damn man have you seen her?" I exclaimed.
"I told you you're gay", she said. "Y'all can stay I'm not hanging with a homo." she said.
"Neither are we", said Bea.
"You're staying Lady. She's the one leaving", said Cassidy.
My heart sunk so deep as I looked at them confused.
"It's called a girl crush. I am straight!" I yelled.
"Whatever, bye", said Lady, "And forget the deal. Here's the key and here's our phones. I'd rather keep my boy friend waiting weeks on a phone call than chill and sleep in the same room as a rug muncher."
I was so disgusted. I didn't know why I felt so upset and almost offended. "I'm not even gay" I kept repeating to myself on the way back to the office.

The next morning I went out to the tables for breakfast and as soon as everyone saw me they all started screaming things like "Gay! You're a homo! Pussy cruncher! Lesbian!"

I ran to my room crying and packed my bags and told Aunt Carol to send me to my friends house so I could stay there. I lied and said I just felt home sick and needed my friends. She talked to my parents and they agreed, so I went back to Chicago and spent the rest of the summer in my friend Zoe's house.

That was the worst summer ever, and if I had to repeat what happened all over again I would much rather die. I began dreading my first day in my new school even more as I remembered that day.
"Tomorrow's the day", I thought to myself, and I jumped onto my bed and pressed my face against my pillow, crying uncontrollably.
