Hi my name is Bodie, and this is my story. Eighth grade year. Nerd, braces, unattractive, and fat. These were all the things I was. These were my labels. Yes I did play basketball, but I wasn't the best. I never has the chance to be a starter. Then there was Derek Parker who was the most popular guy in school and one day he came up to me and asked me to one of those crappy middle school dances.
See at the time I was five feet tall and seven inches. I had two left feet, and no rhythm what so ever. I was really hesitant at first, asking myself why would a guy like Derek ask a girl like me? After a good hour of thinking I finally convinced myself that I was beautiful enough to go to the dance with Derek freaking Parker. We met up at the dance at 7, he then asked me to dance. How could I say no to that perfect face. I mean you just couldn't right?
When the dance was about to end Derek slowly started leaning in closer and closer by the second. I didn't have much time to decided if I was going to give up my first kiss to Derek Parker, so I slowly started leaning in. Then he stopped, "You didn't really think I was going to kiss you, right?" He taunted me.
"No, I couldn't tell if you were trying to tell me something." Wow Bodie, like he will ever believe that. I could feel the heat rushing to my face.
"You were a fool Bodie if you thought I liked you, I didn't even want to ask you to the dance. It was a stupid dare. But hey the bright side is I got $40, and you got to dance with the hottest guy in school." He said smugly. Man how I would like to smack his smug smirk off his face right about now.
But I can't be too hard on him now. He made me the way I am. A single virgin who's a starter on the basketball team with straight A's. Never had a boyfriend and never been kissed. Did I mention I'm 17? I should thank Derek Parker really, after his humiliating truth, it got me thinking that I needed some serious change in my life.
