So Derek and I went to lunch, it was very good I might add. We took separate cars too. We went to a burger joint near school that I never had been to. You would have thought by then he would have figured out who I was, well if you thought that you were wrong.
"So I never asked you your name. I know that was rude of me, but I was so thrown off guard that you knew who I was on the first day here at Arbor." Derek, for once had a apologetic look on his face, so I answered his question.
"I'm Bodie,Bodie Smith."
"That names sounds SO familiar, have we met before?" I just started at him while thinking how many times I could bang my head on this table before I passed out.
"Yes Derek we have, Valley Plain Middle School, 8th grade dance, ring a bell?"
" Oh my god, Bodie Smith. The girl I humiliated." All color fell from his face.
"The one and only. Flesh and blood." My sarcastic attitude might get me killed one day.
"Can I asked you something?" Derek asked, concern on his face.
"Shoot."
"What did you do after..... Ummm after I did that awful thing to you?"
I sat there for a few seconds. Did Derek actually care? Probably not. Of course I'm not going to tell him I ran off and cried. That I tried to make myself invisible, that I starved myself.
"Ummm well I was upset of course, but I saw it coming. Why would a guy like you want to take a girl who was fat and ugly to the dance. I was humiliated yes, but I made some serious changes in my life."
He just stopped and stared at me like I said we a lost child.
"Close your mouth or you might catch flies." I let out a little laugh at my awful joke.
"I heard rumors.... That you starved yourself. Everyone said that I did that to you. I could never get it. I felt like it was all my fault." He said. He really looked sorry, I didn't believe his crap for a minute.
"Well good thing I didn't starve myself, but I all the other crap I had to deal with was your fault." That's when I got up and walked out, leaving the most popular boy in school by himself.***
When I got back to class I went to my seat next to Bridget, but didn't look up. I never told anyone about my eating disorder, and no one will ever find out. I'm better now, I realized it was bad for because I didn't have the energy to play basketball anyone.
"What's wrong?" Bridget asked with concern on her face.
"Nothing." I lied.
"Bodie, I'm your bestfriend, I can tell when something is wrong."
That's funny.... Where were you when I was starving myself and crying myself to sleep every night? Oh right not there for me. "Seriously Bridget, I'm fine." I snapped. Her face fell. I immediately felt bad, but class stated so I would have to apologize later.
When the clock hit 4 I ran out of school and went to the gym. Guess who I saw there. Yep you guessed it.
