I reached home and saw my mom sitting and staring at a family picture. To be more precise, she was staring at my picture. It was taken when my dad had come from Dublin after a diplomatic trip. Well, he was in the U.K embassy. He was the secretary to the foreign affairs minister so he kept on travelling and we too, had to shuffle with him. But this time, we didn't. Because it was the last year of my high school and I wanted to spend some more time with Mandy.

I looked at my mom, she had tears in her eyes.
"Mom? What happened?"

"Nothing", she said as she wiped her tears.

"Tell me, mommy", I sat beside her.

"Dee, I'm worried about you. Your eye-"

"Mom listen, I don't want to talk about it, okay? I know it's hard, but please don't make it any harder for me", I said.

"I'm, I'm sorry", she sobbed, "What did Dr. Carla say?"

Darn it! "Dee, make something up! Fast!", I said to myself.

"Um, yeah. That Carla, that grumpy, old Carla!" I laughed.  Mom raised an eyebrow.

"Sh-she said that-" I stammered.

"Why are you biting your cheek? You do it when you lie." she said.

"Oh. Am I? No, mom I'm not- See, the thing is-"

"Why don't you see her?"

"Because she-she's cruel and vindictive!"

"Not a valid reason. I called her up, and she has called us today at six. Be ready, no excuses." mom said.

"But mom, perhaps we can-" I protested.

"Zip it." mom said and left.

Now I was left alone, staring at my picture and crying.

I stamped my feet and waled towards my room. I saw Zayn's poster lying on the floor.
"Mom! Help me!"

Mom came running. "My boyfriend fell down and he can't get up. Hurry! Call an ambulance!" I shouted.

"Pick up your poster and shut up." she rolled her eyes.

We both laughed. It was so good to see her laugh despite of the pain I gave her.

                                                                                *****

It was six and we left for Dr. Carla's. We sat in the car and I drove. Not a word passed between us, not because we had nothing to say, but because we didn't have to say anything. Finally, we reached at Dr. Carla's hospital and we got out.
I saw the grumpy face. Argh. "Hello, Diana", the grumpy face said.

"Hi, Dr. Carla", I said.

"So, how are you these days?"

Well, I was very happy until I saw you. "Fine", I said with a glum look on my face.

"Well, looks like someone's displeased", she said.

Why in the world was that doctor trying to interact? "Um, no that's not-"

"No problem." she said. Ugh, I hated her so much! God! "Okay, so lie down. Time to check your eyes."

She checked my eyes and said, "I see that you're not taking the pills I recommended." and my mom stared me to death. Darn it.

"Keep a check on her. Please make her take these pills, they'll help her", she told my mom and my mom nodded.

Dr. Carla wrote something on a paper and gave it to mom, "She has to take these as well."

Oh bollocks! More pills. This Carla, what was she? A serpent running after my life?

Mom took the paper and we left. Away from that grumpy face.
