Reading By His Bedside

Since I was the reason Zach ended up on a hospital bed in the first place, I thought maybe I could entertain him a little by reading 'books' to him. Well it started off with the sports section in the newspaper Zach's dad left. Zach told me my voice 'soothed' him, of course I snorted and told him to shut up.

'you like him...'

This Bitch.

We progressed to some broachers I found in the hallways and the next day his mother left his comic book collection.

"You read comics?"

"Shut up! They're very action based, lots of detail you know?"

"Hm. What does that say?"

"I think you need glasses because you're pointing at a pict-, oh..."

I was surprised Zach's parents even let me near him. I mean, if it was my son, I would have killed anyone that hurt my child, intentionally or not on site. After I had finished the comics that was there I looked up, I saw Zach holding an actual book.

"What's that?"

"Oh just a book my dad gave me before he left for work."

"Do you want me to read it?"

Before he could an answer a very rough looking nurse came in, by rough looking I mean that she looked like the kind of person to fight in the WWE.

"Visiting times are over."

Her voice was scratching my ears, I leaped out the chair and looked at Zach.

"I'll be back tomorrow?"

"Tomorrow."

I smiled gathered my things and kissed him on the cheek goodbye.

Tomorrow.

As promised I was back the next day however Zach wasn't in his designated room. Instead I walked in on a must I say dashingly handsome guy in a coma. I quickly excused myself from his emotionally looking family and apologised profoundly.

'Nice going. Like they honestly needed some stupid teenage gurl walking now in in them. Great job.'

I ran to the reception desk to find out what was going on, but before I could open my mouth to the nurse there my mobile started to ring.

'One moment please.'

'Sorry. No phone calls allowed in the building you must go outside.'

'Seriously? Now?'

The nurse passively looked at me like I she was going to kill me and sneak me into the morgue downstairs. In that moment I realised she must have had enough shït today with the hospital going wild. She didn't need me tipping her off the iceberg.

'I'm sorry you're right. I'll go outside.'

I while I made my way outside I looked at the caller ID, Zach's mum. She had given me her phone number in case of any changes the night of the crash.

'Hello?'

'Hi dear. I'm sorry I didn't call you sooner but we checked Zach out of the hospital this morning. I'll text you our address if you still want to come over.'

'Are you sure? I don't want to overstep any boundaries, Zach must be tired.'

'No, of course you can come. He's so lonely and is practically counting the seconds he can see you again. It's quite funny actually.'
