"You can't. You can't save him. Tartarus is no place for a young demigod like yourself, child."
"I can." I glared. "And I will. I don't care if you won't help me. I'll find some way to rescue him. You can't keep me hostage. If you're so worried about me dying, why aren't you worried about your son?"
"Because...I-I believe he is already...gone."
"You...you think he's d-dead?" My voice faded along with any hope remaining in my battered and broken heart.
"He's in Tartarus. What else am I supposed to think?!" Hades thundered.
I inhaled sharply as I watched Hades' face morph from anger to fear to grief.
"I may have lost my only son. This is not something I wish to discuss. Off with you!" Hades rubbed his face with one hand and shooed me off with the other.
I quickly turned on my heel and fled the room, not allowing myself to think because surely the thoughts chasing each other around in my brain would make me cry.
