A Big Mermaid~
A shimmering light above the surface dazzled her large sea-blue eyes- Like two fluorescent jewels twinkling like azurite with mischief. What was that light? What produced it? She watched it in a trance as it danced across the waves, skipping and gliding over like a confetti of small sequins. A curtain spreading over the sheet of vivid blue, enhancing the beauty with one stroke. She was inches below the surface, just one leap and she could bathe in that fresh warmth clinging to her scales and combing in her hair. That beauty of the human land, shades of green, red, purple, yellow, orange... The surface of which everyone talked about. The need. Just one leap and-
"ARIEL!"
Freezing, she stopped in her tracks at that deep, gravely boom of her father. Cringing, she shrivelled away from the feirce, burning light. Goosebumps scattered off her shoulders as she fumbled in her mind for an excuse. Sheepishly, she turned her head around as the sight of her dad's wise, wrinkled face popped into view.
"HOW MANY TIMES, ARIEL? HOW MANY TIMES?"
Raged, he gripped her slim wrist and yanked her away from her dreams into the murky depth of the ocean. "WHAT DID YOU THINK YOU WERE DOING? DO YOU WANT TO DIE? YOU CAN'T GO UP THERE! YOU WILL SPOTTED BY A HUMAN, RESCUE HIM! YOU WILL BE TURNED INTO SEA FOAM! DO YOU WANT FAITH TO TEAR YOU APART?"
She blinked away the water droplets bubbling in her eyes, watching them become one with the sea.
"I'm sorry, father. But the surface is just so, so beautiful!"
A worried look plastered onto her fathers ancient face as he raked his hand through his carpet-long, snow-white beard. "You are my 7th daughter! You cannot go up to the surface!" Pain teared at his heart as he watched his daughters face fall, drained from hope.
Her lip wobbled as she gave a lifeless nod of her head. "I'm sorry, father. I-I- understand." With a flick of her liquid green tail, she pushed herself further and further away from him.
"ARIEL! REMEMBER THE GALA TONIGHT!"
