When I walk out of the locker room, I see Keaton there still waiting for me. "Are you sure you still want to go practice?" Keaton asked with a worried expression on his face.
"Of course! Why is that even a question!?" I practically shout back, pushing him to the side. I slowly make my way into the gym, and turn my head. Keaton still looks worried, he hasn't moved. I don't know why he cares about me going to practice.
I just ignore him and trudge through the door, towards Coach Charter. "Chloe-" Keaton calls, trying to get my attention again. I ignore him and keep walking, when finally I get to Coach Charter.
"Hey-" I'm cut off by a female voice that sounds very familiar.
"Chloe cannot participate in basketball practice today because she seems to have gotten a slight concussion this morning." The voice says matter-of-factly. Then the body that belongs to that voice comes into my view......... Nurse Carlten.
Oh shit! There's no way of getting out of this! Now I understand Keaton's worriedness. I should've listened.
"Oh, Chloe, what are you doing here!?" Coach Charter asks curiously, turning towards me once she noticed my presence. What should I say!? I'm gonna be in so much trouble! Here goes nothing!
" I, uhhh....... You see...... well, I...........Um-" I stutter trying to figure out a way to get me out of this mess.
"She's just here to tell you that she is not gonna be able to practice today!" A low voice says from behind me.
"Why is she wearing basketball shorts, and shoes then?" Nurse Carlten asks.
"Uh..... Well, you see, she hit her head a little harder than she thought, so...... I'll just get her home safe and sound, no worries." Keaton comes into sight, grabbing my hand.
"Very well, hope you feel better Chloe." Nurse Carlten replies, not seeming convinced. As if she's heard enough, she turns away and starts back towards her office. I turn my attention back to the lady in front of me. Coach Charter.
"Chloe, may I speak to you..... in private?" Coach Charter asks signaling for Keaton to leave. It seems like he hasn't gotten the memo yet because, he just stands there staring at us, waiting for us to talk.
"She wants you to go away." I say directly... Guys just don't get hints, if you want to make them do something, you have to be direct.
"Oh!" He exclaims, giving us space...... he finally got the "hint".
"Anyways, Chloe, I know what you're doing.... I understand that you really want to participate in practice today, but you just can't! I've been in your shoes before. When I was your age, I got sick, and the nurse told me not to go to practice, so I lied and said that I wouldn't go to practice. So, after I left the nurse's office, I went straight to the locker room to change. At practice that day, I passed out and woke up in a hospital bed. ANyways, the moral to my story is, go home and get somme rest, you'll be grateful that you rested indstead of played. You're only missing one day of practice."
Wow! I didn't know that my seemingly perfect coach had flaws earlier in her life! She's so insightful.
"Okay then, I guess I'll just go and get some rest then, even though I'd much rather go to practice." I shrug, and start towards the gym doors.
"Hope you feel better Chloe, we're gonna need you at our next game!" Coach Charter waves as I exit the gym, only to be met by Keaton.
"Ugh! What do you want!?" I complain, trying to walk past him.
"I told you that you shouldn't have gone in there." He says, moving out of the way.
"Whatever!" I push past him and walk back to the locker room, so that I can grab all my stuff....... I don't feel like changing.
I walk into the locker room, to my locker and put my code in. 13-34-24.
"You're really slow, did you know that?"
I jump.
"You scared the shit out of me!" I exclaim turning towards whoever said that.
My gaze lands on Keaton, who is laughing hysterically at me.
"Why the fuck are you in the girls' locker room!?" He suddenly stops laughing, and he has a worried look on his face.
"Oh.... Whoops! I'll just be...... Uh.... right outside." He replies stepping out of the locker room.
I lightly giggle to myself and finish packing up. I pick up my stuff and head out of the locker room.
"Like I said, you are so slow." Keaton says leaning up against the wall as I walk out of the locker room.
"Why are you following me?" I ask stopping in front of him.
"I'm not following you! I'm just waiting for you to drive me home."
"What makes you think that I'm driving you home?" I ask curiously. I don't remember volunteering to drive him home.
"I saved your ass, so you owe me." He explains.
"Plus, how else would I be able to keep track of you?" He adds.
"Didn't you drive or something to school?"
"No, I actually carpooled with Drew this morning. He left right after school with a blonde girl. I forgot her name, but I think she was a cheerleader. He didn't even offer me a ride home!"
"Ok..... I get it! I don't need you're whole backstory! Just shut up and follow me." I say annoyed. We walk to my car, and get in.
