Luke felt sick to his stomach for weeks. Jaylee was no where to be found, though he didn't expect her to be around after the message she left him nights ago. There was something in the pit of his stomach, a small inkling of hope that she would've stayed around for him. That inkling quickly fueled a fire inside the same spot in his stomach when he thought about that night again.
He'll kill you if he sees you again. And me if he sees me with you. I'm... sorry.
Sorry wasn't enough for him. The fact that Luke hardly knew her or a thing about her but was hurting, was already broken for her, wasn't taking care of himself because of her, stunned himself. He didn't know what he was missing, yet, his cheeks burned scarlet and his pillowcase stuck to them, thanks to the seemingly meaningless tears he shed. He stunk, which was no fault but his own, because he had failed to get out of bed to take a shower. A plethora of uneaten meals came and gone in and out of his room in Ashton, Calum and Michael's attempt to take care of Luke while he was sulking for absolutely no good reason at all.
Calum and Michael stayed clueless to what Luke was going through and he didn't tell Calum, Michael nor Ashton, but Ashton being close to both Jaylee and Luke, it didn't take him long to figure out what was going on.
Ashton tugged the mountain of covers from Luke's face and Luke's pale face looked Ashton right back at him, "Luke."
Luke didn't answer, he just closed his eyes while his teeth tugged at the metal ring adorning his bottom lip.
"I know about you and Jaylee. You may not remember what happened after you woke up with a busted face but I was the one who got you out of there that night." Worry soaked Ashton's words.
Luke shrugged, in his head he was screaming bloody mary but he managed to keep a straight face, "So?" He only happened to say.
"So I think you should stay away from her. She's in a lot of shit you wouldn't understand." Ashton retorted.
Luke of course didn't care what Ashton had to say about Jaylee or about anything for that matter. He turned his head away from Ashton, soft dirty blonde curls fell into his eyes.
"Please get out."
"Trust me, Luke. You don't know her like I do. You don't want to know her like I do. I don't want you fucked up like her."
"Get out, Ashton." Luke moaned in agony past the huge lump in his throat.
Ashton shook his head, giving the side of Luke's face one last look before he exited the room leaving behind his final words, "You've been warned."
The rest of the day moved like molasses for Luke after Ashton left. Missed calls from his mom and Michael. And Giti, for a reason he wished hadn't been real. He kept checking his phone for that unknown number to call or text back. But it didn't, it never did.
Until at the end of the week it did. A message left by the unknown number since Luke was knocked out when the call came through. But when he was awake and heard the message, that's all the incentive he needed. She sounded good, so good. Probably as good as she was looking. Her voice was unusually smooth and creamy, opposed to her rough and gravelly voice she used when she was disinterested in something or someone (which was just about often). Her voice alone over the phone helped him out of the house and into his car and down the highway. Where she said she'd be. She wanted him to come to her and that all she had to say because unmistakably and shamelessly he was wrapped around the tip of her finger. She sounded like she wanted him again, that all things that happened that night were forgotten.
"Luke, it's Jaylee. I'm at this crazy house party in the suburbs of town. I want you to come and party with me. I miss you." Faint cheering and pumping music could be heard through the phone. "And don't worry, Brock has no idea where I am."
