Chapter 4: I just cared for you like a little baby, you are so not getting any ice cream from me

It's our last day in Hawaii, the fourth day to be exact. Caleb didn't talk to me at all yesterday, and now I am sitting at a table with Jenna, Ashely, Jakob and Caleb. There was only small talk going on, we were just waiting for Rick to direct us to a bus we will be taking to a really cool mountain hike that over looks Waikiki and other parts of the island. I was trying to contain my excitement because I just loved hiking, there is such a sense of calmness that over washes your body once you reach your destination. Yet, it sucks butt hole on the way up because you literally are dying from muscle strain, but I guess in the end, it's worth it. A thought suddenly popped into my head about Jakob, and my curiosity got the best of me.

"Jakob, who is your roommate? I never see you with your roommate."

Jakob cracked a smile and laughed, his pearly white smile flashing. I think we were all wondering the same thing, because even Caleb was paying attention to what Jakob was going to reply.

"It's actually Rick," he chuckled.

"Rick? How'd you get paired up with him?"

"Well, he's my uncle," Jakob shrugged.

I sat back, surprised. I mean, now that I think about it, they do have the same style of hair, and pretty similar personalities. No one got to say anything else, though, because Rick began ushering everyone out of their seats and over to the bus. He lined us all up in front of the sliding doors and asked us to settle down. I felt like I was on a fifth grade field trip again.

"Okay everyone, listen up! At this time, pair up with your travel partner, you will be sitting next to them on the bus, and staying together during the hike," Rick yelled.

You have got to be shitting me. I don't want to have to hike next to grumpy old Caleb for two and a half hours. I felt his presence next to me, even before I turned around and looked at him. When I did, I could see annoyance had covered his face. I rolled my lips into my mouth and decided I couldn't take this any longer, and strutted over to Rick who was standing at the front of the bus where people were already getting on.

"Hello Lila," he smiled when I approached.

"Hey Rick, I was wondering if it would be okay for me to hike with two of my other friends, and then Caleb could hike with you and Jakob?"

"Lila, why would you want to do that?"

"Well because Caleb and I just don't get along, and I don't ever see us getting along, and I paid a lot of money to go on this trip to have fun, not to argue with some guy every five minutes. I'm already fed up with him, and it is only the fourth day," I huffed.

Rick chuckled softly and smiled a broad smile. His eyes twinkled, and they had little crinkles of laugh lines on the sides of them, giving me the impression that he was just an over all happy man who loved to laugh and smile.

"Lila, the only way to learn more about someone, is to get to know them better by hanging out with them. I bet you don't know anything about Caleb yet, do you?"

"I know he's an asshole," I grumbled.

"I guarantee you, that by the end of this trip, you and Caleb will be just like best friends. You just gotta be a little patient. You'd be surprised."

I wanted to laugh my whole entire face off. Caleb and I best friends? He has got to be joking, that is the best joke I have heard yet. I could feel a frown pulling my mouth downwards, and I know Rick noticed it.
