The door at the end of the hallway opened on its own accord. A bright light blue light flashed before my eyes, and pretty soon I wasn't even in the gray and mysterious town anymore. I was at the lake where I saved Jack Frost from "death".

Nebulae set me down and I stepped forward on my own. I gasped as I saw Jack with his sister. His brown locks fluttered in the breeze.

His sister was lacing up her skates, her face dubious. "Jack ... are you sure it's safe?" her voice faltered.

"Of course you'll be safe. I'm here." Jack ruffled his sister's hair in the way only a brother could and sat down on a log next to her. He winked at her playfully.

His sister smiled. "I'm ready!" she said, getting up. She wobbled precariously, but regained her balance. Jack leaped onto the ice and spun around, facing his sister.

She walked onto the ice and slid toward Jack.

CRA-ACK.

The quiet, yet loud, cracking noise cut through my ears sharper than any blade I've felt. I cried out, this wasn't happening again, was it? I looked to the tree branch that I had been sitting on, laughing at the time. I wasn't there now.

"You cannot see yourself, just like no one else can see you," Nebulae said, putting a hand on my back. Although I felt like I couldn't trust him, his hand was comforting.

"J-jack?" Jack's sister's voice rang out. She was scared. She was so scared, she couldn't even move. She was that petrified.

Jack looked down at the ground. He squeezed his eyes shut. "It's okay, it's okay. Don't look down, just look at me."

"Jack, I'm scared." Her voice sounded so pitiful and helpless. I squeezed my eyes shut, but opened them quickly. I felt like I needed to see this.

The ice cracked some more under Jack's sister.

"I-I know." Jack's eyes were filled with fear and uncertainty. His breathing was shallow as he thought of a way to save his little sister. He took a step forward, but his bare foot made the ice crack. This wasn't good. "But you're going to be all right." His voice was soothing - just what his sister needed. "You're not going to fall in."

He hesitated. "Uh ... we're going to have a little fun instead!" He spread his arms, his eyes still showing fear, but not as much as before.

"No, we're not!"

"Would I trick you?" Jack asked, looking at the ice briefly. His eyes flicked up to his sister again and he smiled.

"Yes, you always play tricks!"

"Well not this time. You have to believe in me. Do  you want to play a game? Let's play hopscotch, like we do every day! It's as easy as one," he took a step, "two," another step, "three. Now it's your turn!"

His sister stepped when he counted. On three, Jack lunged forward and hooked his sister with his staff. He flung her to safety.

"S-see? It's okay!" Jack took a step forward.

The ice shattered with a sickening sound and he fell in.

"JACK!" his sister screamed.

I lunged forward and tried to grab Jack's flailing hand. My hand passed through his as he sank in the water. His body had gone into shock. Jack couldn't move, not even as the water filled his lungs and the cold cut through his skin.

Jack was dying.

This was his death.

I screamed at the water and Jack's face. His blue eyes closed slowly. I felt as if I could feel the pain he was going through. His brain got foggy, his lungs screamed for air. His mouth opened with its own will and water flooded into his body. His limbs stiffened up.

The last breath of life leaving his body sent spasms through my body. So this was death.

I must have stayed in that position for a long time because soon I felt the water ice over and Jack disappear into the depths of the lake.

Breathing deeply I sat back.

In, out. In, out. In, out.

The light grew around me. It brightened the entire lake. I looked up and saw the Moon. It was illuminating the lake.

A moonbeam sliced through the darkness and landed on the ice. It started melting.

I was starting to remember this scene.

Silver shoes walked slowly down the moonbeam. The light veiled the face, but I knew it was me. The purple dress shimmered several different shades of purple including a pale lavender that appeared silver. It was my dress that appeared on me when it was time to bring a new Guardian to "life".

My voice rang out. It was soft, sultry, and smooth. I had no idea it sounded like that.

"Jack. You have proven yourself worthy of this great honor to be bestowed upon you."

I looked to the lake. Jack was slowly brought to the surface of the water. I looked back to myself.

"You saved your sister, Jack. You saved her from death. You traded your life for hers. It was a selfless act of love. You'll be showing that often, I'm sure."

By this time, Jack was coming through the ice. His eyes were still closed and his brown hair still wet. He was levitating in a "standing" position in front of past me.

Past Iridescent moved closer to Jack and touched his hair. The brown hair gave way to a silvery white color. It coursed through his hair. At the same time, his skin paled and his teeth whitened. His eyes fluttered open. They were an even more brilliant blue than they were before. In a word? Jack was stunning.

"Go, Jack. Go and find your family." Past Iridescent reached out and carressed Jack's face, a motherly look evident on her face. She touched his forehead. A blue light glowed. She pulled out a glowing orb and put it in a cylinder.

Jack blinked as he was put on the ground. All he would remember is the actual Moon telling him this. He wouldn't remember much else. He wouldn't remember seeing me.

The ... simulation ... slowly faded out. I was in a gray room. Nebulae wasn't behind me, but I wasn't alone.

Jack Frost stood in front of me, bristling with anger.
