Ashley's POV
Kile opens the big clear door for me leading into the ice cream shop in town.
"Thank you." I smile and fix my shirt to make sure there aren't any unwanted wrinkles. I take in my surroundings and notice the familiar large paintings and modern art hung on the shelves around the place. I have been going to this ice cream shop for years now and I was grateful that he wanted to take me here. This place makes me feel at least a little bit comfortable.
"Have you been here before?" He asks, shoving his hands deep in his pockets.
"Yeah, I know the workers here actually. I can introduce them to you if you would like." I smile, and he nods his head with a small grin on his face.
"Hey, Danny. This is my friend, Kile. Kile, this is Danny." I speak, introducing them.
"Call me Dan." He spoke and shook Kile's hand. They exchange conversations and Kile explains how he just moved here because they had to leave their town. Not even thinking, I look up with a curious facial expression and he holds up his hand near me.
"Long story..." He spoke and I just nodded my head, the last thing I want is to push a story out of him that he is not comfortable sharing.
"Okay, so, what would you two love birds like." I wait for Kile's response to the question.
"We are not together, Dan." I smile and he looks between us and shakes his head a bit.
"I will have one scoop chocolate and one scoop coffee. Oh, and one more peanut butter." I finish and Kile looks up at me with silence. I smile at him, tucking my hair behind my ear and his expression changed into an irritated one once the bowl was given to me with the three scoops in it.
"... I will just have one scoop of vanilla." He speaks. I pull my money out to pay for my bowl and he puts my hand down and pays for both of ours. I was surprised that he did it, but most guys here are like that...
"Thank you." I smile and he just nods and takes his ice cream to a table in the corner of the room. As I sit, I stare out of the large window, admiring the trees and the green in the distance. I start to eat my ice cream and Kile breaks my daze.
"Are you going to eat all of that?" He asks, I look at his face and I can tell he is only attempting to be kind.
"Well, I did order it. So yes."
"Don't you think that is a little fattening?" He questions, tapping his fingernails on the table.
"I really could care less about how many calories it has..." I start to feel tension as I take another bite of the ice cream in front of me.
"You eat a bit weird." He mentions and I look at him with an indifferent look on my face.
"Well then don't watch me eat..." Who does he think he is?
"Well it is a little hard when you sat in front of me." He speaks and I feel my temper start to rise at a fast pace. Silence falls between us and I was just grateful that we were almost done with the snack.
After we finally finish, we make our way to the doors and he opens it, letting it fall behind him and I catch the heavy door before it smacks me and I grunt, my eyes rolling naturally.
"Hey, it is getting pretty late, I have to get home or I'll be in a ton of trouble. It's cool if you walk, right?" You have got to kidding me... Feeling offended and angry, I grab my bag from inside his truck and slam the door.
"Not at all you ass." I walk off and get about a mile up the road before I see the sun starting to set. This is ridiculous, Kile acted so kind at first, why do I have to attract the worst people? I shake my head and get an anxious feeling in my stomach, feeling almost embarrassed. I quickly shake the feeling, I have never really been the kind of person who is ashamed of who I am. Darkness begins to surround me and I begin to hear the crickets that were set on the sides of the roads. My phone buzzes in my pocket and I pull it out, seeing my moms name, I open the text message and read it.
