"Lia, start off with a simple forward roll and then a handstand roll." called Lizzie. "Ok!" I called back. I did both skills. "Perfect!" I thought. "Great! Let's do handstands and handstand walks." Lizzie told me. "Squeeze my feet together and arch to walk." I told myself. When I came out of the handstand Lizzie congratulated me. The next skills were cartwheels and round offs. "Lia, try a cartwheel on the beam for me." I walked over to the beam and almost stuck it, but fell off at the end. "You are arching a lot. Try it again and I will spot you." Lizzie told me. I jumped back onto the beam and tried it again. Lizzie made me much straighter and let go a second before I landed. "Much better! Let's go back to floor." and the two of us walked back to the main floor.Lizzie told me to do some more basic things like front and back walkover when she decided that we should move onto more complicated things. "Lia, can you do round off back-hand-spring?" Lizzie asked. "Yes. I can also do round off double-back-hand-spring if you want to see that." I replied. "Wow!" exclaimed Lizzie. "I would love to see both!" "Sure!" I told her. I did them, but Lizzie had a few ways to perfect it. "Try to squeeze your feet together and make sure you are on the balls of your feet, not flat footed. That is probably why it is a bit slow which is why it is hard if that makes any sense!" "It does," I told her. "Great! Try it again," she told me.
By the time the two hours was up, I had gained a spot on Team Amethyst! "You did an amazing job today and I'm so happy you could be a part of Team Amethyst!" She told me. "So am I! Thank you so much for teaching me today! When is the next class?" I asked. "Classes are Tuesday and Thursday every week from 5:00 to 7:00. If that time doesn't work, let me, Miss Lauren, or Miss Rachael know (I had been introduced to them earlier and they were the other team instructors)." "Ok, great! I'm pretty sure I'm free then," I said. "Well I guess I will see you next week!" Said Lizzie. "Ok. Bye Lizzie! Thanks again!" And I walked out of the gym.
On the walk home, all I could think about was competing for Amethyst Gymnastics. I imagined myself winning gold for myself and the team. I didn't even realize, but I skipped the entire way home! I couldn't wait for Tuesday!
