I smile, without happiness, eyes dull and lifeless.
You smile back, oblivious, eyes shine with joy.
I laugh, with no amusement, my thoughts are elsewhere.
You laugh with me, humoured. You're innocent, naive. Pure.

I slow down, but time defies me, as it continues to travel.
You glance at me, confused. You're joyful, full of life, warm, normal.
I close my eyes, but I don't see the darkness
I'm as cold as ice, you, my opposite, burn like fire.

I cry out, but feel no pain. He's coming for me.
I scream in mental frustration, but it remains unheard.
He's here! He's going to---

I laugh hysterically.

'Oh hello, I'm Insane.
Well, people call me that so it must be my name.
Nice to meet you---wait are you hurt?
I didn't mean to hurt you I'm so sorry, how could I?
But I don't remember injuring you at all.
Please please please forgive me' I plead.
I look into your eyes and . . .

I laugh again, uncontrollably.

'Oh, what would the world be without laughter?'
