What happened before in The Dreamers:
One night Evie was woken up by a mysterious boy named Dustin. He explained to her that she is one of The Dreamers. It was hard to believe that for Evie, but he managed to convince her to come to the Dreamers' school with him. By flying on wolf's back. A week later, she's already almost completely used to a new way of living. She's inseparable with her roommates Keiko and Amber, and also her irresistibly cute wolf Aurora. She has some special classes to learn more about this mess she got herself into. Evie learned to dream-travel, use some of her powers and more about Dreamers's enemies, Dream Chasers and Dark Knights. Dreamers record their dreams so they can re-visit or re-watch them one more time, but Evie started having a weird dream with a mysterious girl asking for her help. The weirdest thing is that there's no recording of that dream whatsoever. Just a little ripped letter. In the previous chapter they went to visit Port Dalhousie, nice little place on the other side of Lake Ontario where Dreamers have a few allies living in a lighthouse. When they came back they discovered that three Dreamers were killed and Dreamers are in serious trouble. What next?
New chapter
Our face expressions were showing a mixture of shock, fear and confusion. The atmosphere in the room changed in a mere second. Everybody was too afraid to ask anything, waiting for the headmaster to continue speaking.
"You've probably heard of Dream chasers, one of our enemies. You've probably heard that they are ordinary humans against us. Well, they're far from ordinary. They are physically stronger and also have really strong and dangerous powers we didn't know about. Until today. They can sneak into our dreams and attack. They call themselves Dream invaders. They just pretended to be Dream Chasers as their cover and we were too naive. Three Dreamers were killed today. Our main power has become unsafe since then. Even though, it may not be the best solution, we'll have to unite with Dark Knights." headmaster explained. Older students started complaining at the mentioning of Dark Knights and I remembered that we were told they are enemies of ours.
"I'm not fond of that decision either. Just a quick explanation for younger students. We have always thought of Dark Knights as enemies, but now we'll have to work together against Dream invaders since it's our only solution at the moment. Dream invaders still don't know the location of Dark Knights' hiding spot. I've already contacted their leader and they agreed to help us. The most important thing at the moment is to get to a safe hiding spot. Now, I'll ask you to go to your rooms and pack everything." she said, and even though her voice was strong, I could hear her sadness. She was terrified. On her sign, we went to our rooms.
"Come on, Aurora." I whispered to my wolf and motioned her to follow me. The whole time she was sitting next to me listening carefully, like she understood how serious the situation was.
The tension in the air was noticeable, it could be cut with a knife. I took out my backpack and started packing all of my belongings. Since we didn't know where are we headed, again, I didn't know what to wear. I put on a swimsuit, still hoping we're going to end on Hawaii somehow and a crop top over it paired with skinny jeans and comfy sneakers. I quickly crammed everything in my backpack.
Amber and Keiko were packing too and after we all finished we went back to the main hall. When we came, it was chaos till headmaster whistled loudly. The room silenced in a second.
"There's no need for panicking, please. We'll split in groups, two of them have already settled of. Every group will have its leader, one of our oldest trustworthy students or a teacher. He or she will lead you to our hidden train station. After the train ride you'll find our ships waiting for you in the port. They will take you to our destination. Maybe you're asking yourself why don't we fly on our wolves. It's simple. They aren't that strong, we would have to take a lot of stops on our way which would be dangerous. Besides, we are easier spotted in the air then travelling as normal people. Okay, just follow your leader and everything will be okay. Go take your place in line so I can split you in groups." headmaster gave commands.
A few hours later, headmaster assigned us to a boy, a third grader even though he could be easily mistaken for being older because of his height and overall look.
"I'm Kevin. Nice to meet you, blah blah blah. Let's go." he said, his voice completely emotionless. It was obvious he wasn't a friendly type. We followed him, as all of the students already settled off and it was our turn. Aurora nudged my leg to get my attention as if trying to say that guy is strange, and I nodded with a smile. We walked into a less popular area of Toronto and quickly after ended in a forest. Nobody tried to make a small talk so we were just walking in silence. It was quite chilly and I regretted not putting an extra layer of clothes beneath my coat. What I saw minutes later was pure contrast. There was a little wooden house next to the rails and a train which seemed huge in this environment. It was odd and quite strange to see a train in the middle of the woods. I guess that's why headmaster referred to it as hidden station. As we got closer I noticed that one of the walls of the house was missing and there was a big hole in the roof.
"What happened here?" Keiko asked.
"I have no idea but it doesn't look good." Kevin said, nervously fixing his scarf and crumpling it in his hands. Next moment, he quickly crouched on the ground.
"Found something?" Amber asked.
"There was a fight here, maybe half an hour ago. It was a planned attack, somebody knew a lot of Dreamers would be here." he explained, leaving us speechless.
"Do you think they're okay?" I gulped.
"I think so." he confirmed.
"What now?" Keiko asked.
"We'll have to start the train and catch up with others." he answered simply. Before any of us could ask any questions, he ran to the train that looked like it could be more of a retro souvenir than a driving tool and started shaking the door to open it. The door lost the battle. It fell of. Amber face-palmed and I started laughing.
"Have Dreamers thought of replacing this antic train with something new?" Keiko asked.
"Nope. Headmaster has a thing for retro stuff. Don't ask." he rolled his eyes.
"Well we don't have to waste our energy on opening a door from now on." I commented and Kevin grinned slightly.
"Okay, let's go." Keiko smiled and lightly pushed me to the train.
