song for the chapter: Time to Pretend by MGMT

Christian sits on top of the fraternity house's roof, dangerously teetering off the edge with a tightly rolled joint in between his lips. He takes a big huff, inhaling the toxins into his systems before blowing out the excess smoke. It calms him down significantly.

He had just gotten yet another call from Summer's dad, Pastor John, and he was pestering him with questions. Even after 3 years he still didn't accept Christian into their family. Although, it was understandable with the vices he thrives on and the life he lives. Christian just couldn't deal with any more of her father's questions and not-so-subtle 'suggestions' to find someone else to date.

"Ah, thought I'd find you here." Jason, his best friend from the fraternity, says as he pokes his head outside of the attic window and the way onto the roof. Christian glances behind him and smirks at Jason, patting the space beside him and inviting him to sit.

Jason climbs out of the window and onto the spot next to his best friend, taking out a joint from his own pocket and uses Christian's lighter to spark it to life. "So, why're you MIA down there? Danny and Putz are on their 5th match of beer pong, and it's getting tense. Tie-breaker." he says, and Christian chuckles slightly.

"Uh, just some shit." he replies vaguely, shrugging dismissively. "Anyways, how's Emily?" he asks, and Jason smiles.

"She's so good! Her chemotherapy just ended, and she couldn't be happier. The tumour hasn't spread in a while, so we're staying pretty optimistic." he says with a smile, and Christian beams at him.

"Dude, that's great news!" Christian congratulates and he nods happily.

"Yeah, right? And how's Summer? You guys still going strong?" he asks, and even then, they are Christian and Summer.

"We're great, she's great." he says with a smile, looking down at his feet. "I mean, her dad's an ass but she's not. She has a great ass, though." he says, taking another drag from the joint.

"Speaking of, how many times a week do you fuck her?" Jason asks with a smirk, and Christian lets out an impatient huff.

"Zero. She's all about abstinence and waiting for marriage." Christian says, rolling his eyes at his own words.

"Yikes." Jason says with a grimace. "For 3 years?" he asks in disbelief. "Dude you must have, like, the worst case of blue balls. I'm surprised they haven't exploded." he says, and Christian laughs loudly, shoving his shoulder playfully.

"Yeah, yeah. But hey, I now have a much closer relationship with my left hand." he says and Jason guffaws.

"Alright come on, blue balls. We're missing the beer pong match of the century."

And as Christian gets beer spilt on his shirt and laughs at his brothers wrestling on the ground playfully, he smiles. And he's drunk at 2 in the afternoon after being incredibly stoned since 9 in the morning, and everyone else around him is free and happy, and it's a regular Thursday in the Alpha Sigma house. This is family, he thinks.
