Calum's P.O.V.

I could hear mumbling, it kind of sounded like bees busy buzzing away but I'm sure it wasn't because I could hear my mum and dad. My mum sounded sad, like she'd been crying and my dad was just being blunt, he'd definitely been crying too, he was only like that when he was sad.

I was so confused as to why I could hear both of my parents upset, and bees at the same time. But the answer became clear to me when I realised it wasn't bees I could hear but other people talking. I recognised the voices, they were the voices of my friends. Luke was here, as was Michael, Aleisha, Alex and Erin. She was here. With my mum and dad?

Although I was painfully tired and really didn't want to, I slowly opened my eyes, only to be greeted by a bright white light that rendered me blind for a few seconds as my eyes adjusted to it. I blinked a few times and looked around the room. I saw my mum, being cuddled by my dad, both looking tired, scared and worried. Aleisha and Luke sitting on a chair in the corner, Aleisha cuddled up to Luke stroking his hair gently - she only did this when he was worried. Alex and Michael were in conversation about something but it wasn't funny like it usually would be because neither of them were laughing, as a matter of fact, no one in the room had the slightest ounce of amusement on the face, or happiness. And that was when I saw Erin. She was just sitting, cross legged on the floor, staring out of the window. She looked so tired. She was wearing a large baggy maroon jumper that suited her nicely, a pair of black leggings and some maroon high cut converse. Her hair was in a messy bun, bits falling out all over the place, and it looked like she'd been crying because her mascara had smudged slightly down her face.

That's when I remembered the events from the football match. The way Sam had tackled me, the way Erin had stood up to him and most importantly my ankle. I looked down to see my leg in a cast - great, no more football for me.

"Calum!! You're awake!" Michael cried out from the corner of the room. This caused all 7 pairs of eyes to stare in my direction, with my mum being the first person to run over to me, throwing herself at me, squeezing me in a tight hug.

This started an encore of hugs from everyone, people started to make jokes to lighten the mood causing everyone to laugh. Erin was the last one to hug me, knowing the others had been my friends for longer, that was cute, she was being humble.

But as she reached me, her face that had been solemn about 3 minutes ago, crumpled and she burst in to tears as she wrapped her arms around my neck and, considering I was laying down, my head was comfortably nestled between her boobs. Not that I was complaining. She squeezed me so tightly I thought I was going to suffocate and when she pulled back she was still crying but smiling at the same time.

I then decided to ask a stupid question; "why is everyone crying?" This sent everyone in to a talk with each other about the stupidity. Luke was the first to say something "mate, you were knocked out by Sam when your head hit the ground". I nodded, aware of this. "The doctors said your leg will stay broken for about 6 weeks, but you only passed out from when you hit the ground, nothing else" was Aleisha's input, clearly relieved I was okay and that Luke was happy again, that's all she ever cared about bless her, Luke's happiness. "You've been out for two days Cal, the doctors didn't know what was wrong with you" Michael said slowly, making sure I processed it. I nodded again, my eyes begging them to continue. "We didn't know if you were going to..to wake up" my mum said, her voice breaking slightly, that broke my heart. I'm such a mummy's boy and it was killing me to know she was so upset at the moment.

But the thing that killed me inside the most was what was said next. "The doctor came in about 20 minutes ago and said your body had stopped responding to the medicine" Alex said, almost whispering. I heard Erin take a shaky breath as my dad spoke "they said it was touch and go on one final treatment" then Erin spoke finally, saying the final thing that no-one had wanted to say "if you didn't respond, they said..said...they said you would die..." she closed her eyes slowly and reopened them. "They gave it to you when they told us about the severity of your head injury..it didn't work. You flat lined twice Calum. You died..you died twice." The meaning of those three final words hit home for Erin and she quickly apologised before bursting in to tears and running out of the room crying. My heart broke at that moment.
