Keizer, Rosalina and Otis continued to head northwest of Megaton towards the city of Arefu. The sun began to beat down on three of them with extreme heat. Keizer and Rosalina kept in good pace but Otis was slowing down from exhaustion.
Otis yelled out "If we stay out here any longer my skin is gonna start peeling off even more, and not because of the radiation!"
Rosalina and Keizer looked back at him completely annoyed by his complaining "Will you quit whining we're nearly there." Keizer said.
Otis growled at him "You said that an hour ago."
"He's right, we've been walking forever and I don't see this settlement in sight." Rosalina jumped in defending Otis's point.
Keizer began to get real fustrated and pointed out a ways. "See those metal shacks out that way?" He said pointing out a way to a run down highway with three metal shacks. Otis and Rosalina looked at each other a little disappointed, they expected a little more than just a really small settlement. "That's Arefu, we're almost there."
"I'm not gonna lie... I thought it would be a little bigger. How do they even stay alive?" Rosalina asked still in awestruck over how small Arefu was.
"They have a little farm house with a couple of brahmin, so they breed and I guess eat off of them." Keizer explained.
They continued on their walk to the settlement when the came across the old barn house near the ramp. Otis and Keizer began to walk up the broken down ramp but were stopped when Rosalina called them out from a distance.
"Boys! You might want to come see this!" She yelled. Otis and Keizer turned around and began to walk down the ramp towards the barn.
They were met with a gruesome sight as they saw two of the brahmin's dead "woah... you think raiders did this?" Otis asked.
"Probably, we should check the settlement see if everyone's alright." Rosalina suggested.
Keizer walked up to the dead brahmin and began to examine the area around the bodies. Surprisingly, there was not a trace of blood around them "That's odd, no blood, or anything. Almost as if it was wiped clean." Keizer said.
"That is weird." Rosalina agreed.
Otis began to get a cold feeling go right down his spine "So... so what your saying vampires did this or something?" He asked with a slight tremble to his voice.
Keizer turned and stood up scoffing at the question "Relax, there's no such things as vampires you ghoulish baby. Let's just get up there and see if no one was killed or something." He said.
The three continued to walk up the broken down highway going towards the small metal shacks. They began to feel very uncomfortable as they approached the settlement, they saw no one outside and it was way too quiet.
"Where is everybo..." Before Keizer could finish his question an explosion went off near him causing him to fall back. "MOTHER FUCKER!" He yelled.
An old looking man popped out behind one of the small cement walls up ahead. "Hang on, your not one of them. I nearly blasted you into two." He yelled out.
"What the hell you could've killed me jackass!" Keizer yelled pulling himself up.
"Be quiet. Get over here before they spot you." The old man yelled out motioning them over to him. Otis and Rosalina ran up with Keizer right behind them. They quickly got up top and made it to the old man "Now what the hell are you folks doing all the way out here?" He asked.
Rosalina pulled out the note and showed the old man "we're here to deliver a letter for Lucy West's family."
"That's great, but I got bigger problems than being the towns postman. The shits about to hit the fan in this cesspool, and I don't think I can stop the family." The old man said in a strict but nervous tone.
