Identity
XX and XY chromosomes depict our struggles
Imprinting a biological blueprint
Like discrimination was determined before we could even take our first breath.
You breathe and I breathe inhaling misandry and misogyny
Exhaling our hope that one day we won't be labeled.
They can't put a label on identity
Who decides gender or sexuality, a person or society?
Society bends our minds into pretzel perfection
But screams when we aren't straight
Saying man isn't to love man
Woman isn't to love woman
Woman is to man
Like night is to day
Opposites attract
But sometimes they cancel.
Society inflicts restrictions
Like their rules are biblical
Commandments to fit in
And if you are to defy society
You go to societal hell
You scream out to a God
But he's silent.
Your mind is twisted into an abstract art
You try to make sense of an image
Looking for some type of savior
But hell has burned your sense
And in the ash lies your identity.
