 Harry's POV

After lying in the bed for ten minutes, I finally decide to face the fact that I have to take a mermaid shopping today. A mermaid? How insane does that sound? As I stand to wake her up I realize that she isn't in my bed at all. What the heck? I make my way down the stairs to the kitchen and the smell of bacon and eggs permeate my nose.

"Hello?" I mumble as I cross the corner.

"Good Morning!" Coralie chirps while setting the table with fancy silverware. I look over to my dad while he's making the food and back over to her.

"Good morning?" I walk over to the fridge and grab myself something to drink.

"It was Coralie's idea to make breakfast, doesn't it look nice Harry?" My dad looks over his glasses at me with a raised eyebrow.

"Yes, of course." I say with a forced smile. I don't remember the last time I've actually sat down and ate breakfast with my dad, much less another person. It's always me grabbing something while running out the door for school.

"Your dad is a great cook." Coralie states while setting the remaining food onto the table. I raise my eyebrow at my dad's cocky look on his face.

"Oh is he?" I question. She nods with a smile on her face and begins to eat immediately. My dad and I can't help but stare at the foreign girl while she gulfs down her plate in a minute. I can tell that my dad is trying not to laugh and his happiness all the sudden makes my heart flutter.

"Here's an outfit that Coralie can wear today, it's one of your moms." My dad hands me a light blue v-neck shirt with a pair of khaki shorts and sandals. From what I remember, my mom was pretty small so these clothes should fit her fine. I hand the clothes over to Coralie and she takes them from me slowly.

"Is everything alright?" I ask her.

"I just don't want your dad to not like me wearing your mother's clothes. That's all." She looks down at her feet.

"It's fine, it's not like you can wear PJ's all day, right?" I ask, to lighten up the mood. She shakes her head.

"No, I suppose not."

"Okay, so go get changed and I will be waiting for you downstairs whenever you're ready."

While she's changing, I decide to throw on a t-shirt, skinny jeans, and another beanie and make my way downstairs to wait for Coralie. When I reach the bottom, my dad is also walking out of his room in a more presentable outfit so he can go to my school.

"I know nothing about this girl Harry. What am I supposed to write on all of her sheets?" My dad worries. I shrug my shoulders in defeat, I honestly have no clue.

"Tell them that she is my cousin. And I guess just make up the rest. I don't think she even remembers anything about herself. " I sigh. He starts typing notes into his phone and nodding as he thinks of lies to tell my school. This girl is going to be clueless, so why are we doing this? To make her feel as normal as possible... that's why...

After 10 minutes, she finally makes her way downstairs. I try not to look at her because honestly, she's the most beautiful girl I've ever laid my eyes on. Not one inch of her body is imperfect. It must be the mermaid thing.. I shake my head of these thoughts and we make our way to the mall. Since we live on an island, the outlet malls are about a five minute walk, so there is no need to take our beat up old car.

Coralie's POV

I'm so scared. Why am I not a siren? Why do I feel so human? Why am I pretending to be to happy when I'm not?

I look over to Harry as we walk our way over to this so called "mall" and I take in his features. His jaw is so defined, his hair looks so soft, and his body looks so scrawny, yet he gives off this hard front that makes it hard to read what he's feeling. As a mermaid, I can usually know what someone is feeling by looking at them, but I can't do that with him. It confuses me and infuriates me at the same time. His father is so nice letting me stay with them but I can see how he looks at me with longing, and that I remind him of his deceased wife.

Why isn't Harry acknowledging that I'm not a human? Why is he pretending I am? I should be figuring out a way to go back home! Not shopping for human clothing and going to school.

"Why are you looking at me?" He looks over and catches me staring. I look away from him quickly.

"Why are you doing this?" My question seems to catch him off guard.

"What do you mean?" He questions, and stops walking.

"Harry, I'm a mermaid. I should be in the water right now! I'm grateful of your help, but I should be getting back now." I point over to the water and stare at it with longing. I've never wanted to be home as bad as I do right now.

"You aren't a mermaid anymore Coralie. You said something about a siren earlier. What is a siren?" I reach deep inside my thoughts to remember the book definition of what a siren actually is.

"There are many different meanings to a siren, but the one I know the best is a woman who is considered to be alluring but also dangerous in some way. They eat human's hearts out with their teeth and that is how they live. What if I turn into that Harry? " Water starts building up in my eyes again and I try to keep them away. I can tell that he doesn't know what to do with my water pouring from my eyes.

"That's a ridiculous story that people tell as fairy tails, it can't possibly be true. How about this? We go shopping and have a fun day, and worry about all that non-sense another time. Does that sound okay to you?" He asks. Even though the thoughts are racing through my mind, I try to push them back so I can have a "fun" day shopping with ridiculous humans.

"That sounds okay." I finally say as we continue our walk to the mall.
