Harry's POV

The girl seems to be out cold as I stare at her fish body in my dad's net. Is this a dream? I ask myself repetitively. Is this what my dad has been searching for all these years? I run my hands through my hair and walk back and forth on the back deck until I get the nerve to walk back to inspect the creature. Could this possibly be real? Mermaids are just a fairy tale. I grab the net handle and start to crank it. Once the net is all the way up to the deck I check my surrounding to make sure no one is watching,  I tip the net so the creature falls out. It lands with a clunk onto the deck and I flinch, Ouch- bet that hurt. I stand ten feet away and observe the creature. The tail consists of a copper-golden orange color and it reaches to about ten feet. The top half of the girl's body is covered in the same copper scales. Steam starts to form from the tip of her tail and I run to find a towel to cover it so she doesn't burn away right in front of me. I find an old sponge bob towel and I throw it on her tail from five feet away. The steam seems to go away and I sigh with relief. What am I going to tell my dad? Should I just dump her back into the ocean?
Ten minutes go by and there is still no sign of movement from the mermaid. I know that she is alive because of the movement of her chest going up and down. My thoughts are interrupted by the ringtone of my phone from the inside of the boat. I rush into the bunker and pull out my phone. Shit, it's my dad.

"Hello?" I rush. I hear rustling of papers on the other side of the phone which tells me he is still sitting in his office.

"You said you would be back in an hour. Its past that. I just called to make sure you were okay." He reminded.

"I'm fine. I just lost time. The water is perfect today." I lie.

"Well make sure to be home soon. I'll be making dinner." He commands.

"Okay, sure bye." I hang up the phone quickly and I rush back out to the dock to see the girl leaning up against her elbows with a confused look on her face. I slowly make my way over to where she is laying and I latch my eyes onto her gentle face. Her eyes are still closed and I notice that her breaths are fast and rapid. I contemplate whether to say something or not, so I cough. The cough doesn't have an effect of her.

"Um.. hello?" I mumbled lightly. Hoping to get a response. No response. I walk a little bit closer and stop on the deck making a thumping sound. Still no response. I huff in annoyance as I walk over next to the creature and lightly tap her on the shoulder. This seems to have an effect on her. Her eyes shoot open revealing orbs the color of the sea itself, the sight of them causes myself to lose breath. Her head jerks down to my hand on her shoulder and she scoots herself all the way across the boat with a horrified look etching across her face. I raise my hands to my sides.

"I'm not going to hurt you." I proclaim, slowly walking towards her again. "I am here to help." I say, hopefully meaning it. Her gaze doesn't leave my face as she turns her head to the side in confusion. I stop walking and stand five feet away, watching her face as she watches mine. Her gaze leaves mine as she looks down at her hands. She turns them back and forth as her eyebrows draw together towards her nose. She grabs the towel around her and throws it off her body to reveal her tail. Her tail starts to steam once again and her eyes grow wide and she starts to shake as if she is in pain. I raise my hands behind my head and run to grab the towel that she threw off her body, but when I turn back around, her tail is gone.
A naked girl is laying before me, shaking, with watery eyes and runny nose. Her tail and scales are gone, and she now looks as though she is human. I look away in embarrassment, as if I've never seen a naked girl before. When I look back over to her, she is already staring at me.

"Do you want this towel?" I question, holding it out for her to grab. Her eyes fall onto the object in my hands and she reaches out with her shaky ones to grab it. She takes the towel and stares down at her new found legs, she picks one leg up with her hand and drops it back down like dead weight. She does the same with the other. She looks over to my legs and watches them, causing myself to feel very awkward and uncomfortable.

"Can you talk?" I ask her. She jumps back and looks up to my lips. She takes her hand and presses it to her lips like they are a foreign object. "What's your name?" I question. She takes the towel and wraps it around her body, which makes me sigh with relief. She doesn't answer my questions and annoyance passes through me.

"Do you even have a name?" I remark, running a hand through my hair. She nods her head with her hand still on her lips. Her eyebrows stay scrunched.

"Then what is it? Mine is Harry." I note. Her eyebrows finally raise up and a slight smile forms on her face. Why is she smiling? She slowly opens her mouth and croaks. I almost laugh out at her because she jumps from her own croak. She grabs her neck and opens her mouth again.

"Corrrr." She croaks again.

"Core? As in the core of a rock? Is that your name?" I muse. She nods her head no. "Go on." I insist.

"Corrraalllliieee." Each letter of the name is drawn out and it seems as though she was saying it for five minutes.

"Your name is Coralie?" I question. Her eyes light up at the sound of her name and she smiles.

"Coralie." I repeat again. "Who are you?" I sit down where I am standing to show her I mean no harm.

"Mer." She says, clearly than last time.

"A mermaid?" I guess. She nods her head slowly and points to her legs, which are pointed like she still has a tail. She points to my legs and mumbles, "Siren?" My eyebrows raise in confusion.

"I said my name was Harry, not Siren." I laugh. She frowns and shakes her head no vigorously. She points to my legs again.

"Legs?" I ask. Her nods her head yes.

"You have legs too." I point out, causing her to frown. She leans back onto the side of the boat and closes her eyes. I watch as she bring her legs up underneath her and she attempts to stand up. In her attempt, she makes it halfway up before her wobbly legs give out and she falls back onto the deck, dropping her towel in the process. I run over to her and grab her arms, looking away from her body and grabbing the towel.

"Here. Wrap this around your body again and I'll go find you some clothes." I order. When she looks confused I point to my pants and say,"Clothes." She nods her head and recovers her body.

I run back to the bunker and throw all the clothes from my duffle bag all over the floor. I find an old black v-neck and a pair of swim trunks. I know they will be huge but it will have to work for now. I take the clothes to her and set them in her lap.

"You put these on and I'll turn around." I say and she nods.

"Thank." Is all she says.

I hear a clunk, causing myself to turn around and watch the sight before me. Coralie has swim trunk holes through her arms and she is trying to pull them over her head. I snicker at the sight and walk over to her, trying to be as smooth as possible to help her.

"Need help?" I question, with a smirk on my face. Her cheeks start to flush and she nods her head. I take the black tshirt and put my arms through it, showing her how to put it on. She nods her head like she understands and she repeats my instructions until the shirt is covering her upper body. I then show her how to put on the shorts and she smiles while scooting them up her legs.

"Do you want to stand up?" I ask, reaching my hand out to her. She grabs my hand with her own and I slowly bring her body towards mine. She is surprisingly weightless. I help walk her inside the boat and onto the couch in the bunker.

"Are you cold?" I ask, she nods her head no. I stare at her a second longer looking at her features. Her long golden hair has now dried all the  way and lies down her back in perfect waves. Her tan skin seems to glow in the room, causing myself to stare at her legs longer than I should. I feel dizzy looking back out the window. She is beautiful.
What am I going to tell my dad? "Hey dad, I possibly found something that could lead to moms death but I don't want to kill her so lets just let her live here."

I snicker at my thought and switch the boats gear to drive. I glance back at Coralie to make sure she is still there but she is fast asleep.
