As we walk into the café Isaac wraps his arm around my waist and whispers into my hair, "You know, this place lets a few people volunteer. But there's a few people that they just force. You sure you want to do this?"
I look at him, "Are you trying to stop me?"
Isaac laughs but gives no response. I guess that means a yes and a no.Isaac and I make our way to an empty booth in the corner of the room and watch a few acts perform. A few of them are karaoke performances but then others are just people playing instruments and one band goes on.
The emcee comes onto the platform and announces for the next volunteer and Isaac raises his hand. I did not expect this.
"In the corner there we have our next performance, everyone take a good look at him. But ladies don't look too long, he's obviously got a girl." Says the emcee.
My face goes red as everyone stares at us.
"You better not sing for me. I will literally break down and die right here, I swear it."
Isaac giggles, "I'm not even singing. I'm playing guitar."
"Oh my god that's such a cliché." I say laughing.
"Cliches are cute, sometimes. Plus YouTube tutorials are really hard to follow. This is the only instrument I could actually keep up with."
"I want to sing with you." I say.
Isaac's face lights up as if I just told him he's getting a second date for sure. The emcee taps his mic and interrupts our little session, "Any day now would be nice."
The crowd begins to laugh which I'm surprisingly not embarrassed at.
Isaac puts one finger up in the air and smiles at me,"What song should we do?"
I do a quick shuffle in my head of cute couple songs, "What about an Alex and Sierra song? 'Little do you know' is just the one."
"Sounds good."
"We're waiting," says the emcee.
Isaac stands up and I follow him towards the stage. As we walk I suddenly feel as if another life takes over me, I feel confident, I feel as if I'm headed toward my first home.Isaac sits on the chair on the stage and grabs the guitar then I take the mic.
Isaac starts playing he's guitar and I open my mouth to sing. The moment the first word pours out of my mouth I feel my soul follow it and then the crowd starts cheering and a deep sense of euphoria runs through me.
Maybe it is late and maybe I do need to get home. But as far as I'm concerned, this is home.
