Shit. I fell asleep. I fell asleep on Isaac's lap in the middle of a park. How careless could I be? My phone starts ringing and the moment I see the caller ID, I already know I'm in trouble.
"Hello?"
"Dylan? Where the hell are you? We've been trying to call you all afternoon! You've missed four clients. This is absolutely unprofessional of you. I can't believe you would do this. I thought you were a responsible kid but now I see how quick you are to run off with your boyfriend!"
"Sandra I'm sorry, I just got so caught up in the moment I completely forgot and..."
My sentence is cut off by a laugh.
"Babes, I'm kidding. Although it's seven pm, you should probably be getting home."
"Yeah I will. Thanks San. And I'm sorry again."
"Dylan, you shouldn't feel guilty about being a teenager. This is normal, healthy even. Honestly I don't think you should be wasting your life at the barber. The world has so much more to offer you, and you've got what it takes to own it. And now you've even found someone to add a bit of interest to that world, what the hell are you still doing being responsible. Go on an adventure, run away for a few days. Have some sex for God's sake! Just get out of this little comfort zone you've created for yourself."
Sandra's right, I know it. I've been hiding from all the moments I could make. I need fun in my life, I need an actual life and that's not going to happen at the barber.
"Should I quit?" I ask.
"I really think you should, even your aunts been worried about the fact that you don't go out like you used to before the crash. You were such a social butterfly so it's hard to see you like this. I don't think she'll mind that you're quitting. I'll give her a call for you okay."
"Thank you so much San. I owe you one."
"You do indeed." Sandra responds laughing.
I cut the call and look down on a smiling Isaac. When did he wake up?
"Were you listening?" I ask laughing. I've known him for about a day now and I can already tell that he's a very curious person.
"I was. And I'm eternally grateful to Sandra for making you quit because this fits in perfectly with my plan."
"You have a plan?" I ask with a raised eyebrow.
"Do I look like the type to not have a plan?"
God, he's so cocky. He's an asshole and I like it. I must be a serious bitch then. Because only bitches ever really relate to assholes properly.
"Not at all." I respond, "So what's the plan?"
"We're going on an adventure. A long ass one. But I don't want you to just experience the normal things, we're going on one hell of a teenage adventure."

He's such a good asshole. It isn't fair.

I contemplate slipping my tongue in his mouth and repeating our entire afternoon but then I realize it's dark out and my mother must be worried sick. But I don't have any missed calls from her, so I'm sure I shouldn't be in too much trouble.

"I should probably get home." I say.
"Yeah, I'll pick you up tomorrow for the first of our plans. I'll fetch you at about three pm. Will your mother be angry that you're late."
"I don't know. I've never really showed up late. She's generally chilled though so I'm sure it should be fine."

Isaac and I get dressed in our clothes and climb out of the playhouse. As we get out we hear music that is undeniably the sound of karaoke. Its coming from the café.

"Let's go." I say to Isaac.
"Yeah we are going."
"No, not home. Let's go to this karaoke thing."
"But your mom?" Isaac says confused.
"Isaac, there's one thing in this life that I need to experience. I need to perform. I've seen my videos from the music festivals I used to perform at. There was passion in the way I performed. I need to know how she, well I, felt. My mom can wait."

Isaac gets this spark in his eyes as if he's seeing something in me, "Let's do it."
