I spent the next week at school debating whether I should text Isaac or not. On one hand it was extremely unprofessional. But on the other hand, I haven't done any stupid things that teenagers are supposed to do. According to my memory I have never been fired from a job, I have never fallen in love with a boy or even flirted. This was my only opportunity to make at least one "young and dumb" memory that I could remember one day. Friday came and I was still unsure as to whether I would call him or not so I decided to call Nyla. Nyla had become my best friend after the crash happened. She witnessed the crash so she took it upon herself to come visit me at the hospital every day. We would speak for hours. It was after her that I started believing in fate. Sometimes fate was the biggest pain in the ass and other times fate brought me my best friend. I like to believe that fate brought me Nyla as an apology gift.
Five minutes after I've called Nyla, she shows up at my door. I've always liked that about her. She was always there when I needed her.
"Dyl!" I hear her scream downstairs.
"Come up. I'm wearing the shortest shorts in history and the gardener is standing in the yard."
Nyla giggles. Gordon, our gardener, has had the hots for me for the past 3 months and while it is flattering, I feel extremely uncomfortable around him."Okay fine I'm here. Whoa, girl!" says Nyla as she scans my bare legs. " I recognize those shorts. You wear those shorts every time you're confused and you feel comfort is the key. I always just thought you wore it on your period. But you got your period last week so I'm guessing something's up."
I stare at Nyla, astonished. She pays so much attention to detail.
"You seriously know me," I say.
"Yeah yeah I'm the best friend ever. Cut to the chase."
"See there's this boy."
"A boy?" She asks raising her eyebrow.
"Yes. A boy. I'm not dating him or anything. I'm just, I just, I just want to call him! He gave in his number for the customer service line. I'm pretty sure I could get fired if I called him, but I'm craving some adventure."
Nyla stares at me for at least an entire minute without saying a word. Then she starts, "Babes, I've known you for six months now. I've been with you to countless malls and I've seen how the guys check you out. And trust me, they check you out."
" Yeah because everyone wants to check out a flat chested, storyless, bore."
"Apparently they do. I mean come on, if I were a guy I'd check you out," she says laughing, "Anyway, back to my point. I don't think you should give yourself to this guy just because you think this is your only option. But I think that you should call him anyway. See what he's all about, and I'm going to give you the numbers of three guys as well. Contact all of them, and then you decide which one has your heart."
Is she crazy! I'm not going to be hooked up with anyone. I'll find my own guy, and maybe Isaac is that guy.
"No," I say "I refuse to let my life become this confusing love triangle. It's too cliché. You know what, I'm going to call him. And only him. I'm going to look ridiculously pathetic but at least I'll know I tried."Naya starts giggling.
Why the hell is she giggling.
"Have you forgotten that I know you better than you know yourself. I know for a fact that you're stubborn. If I hadn't told you to call a bunch of guys you never would have decided to call this guy."
I roll my eyes. She's right. Reverse-psychology has always worked on me. Why didn't I realize what she was doing sooner.
"Okay, fine." I say, "I have a shift at the barber tomorrow. I'll get his number from the records there."
