I looked around his family room and at the books on his bookshelf. Then I stumbled upon some rather interesting books. Photo books! I gathered the lot of them in my arms and spread them out across the coffee table. I opened one of them up and flipped through it. This particular one had pictures of Ashton and his family when he was about seven or eight. He was super adorable. I flipped through another and he was about twelve. He was a little awkward, but we all were at that age. Ashton really loved his family. You could just tell from the pictures. He was also naturally musically inclined. He could play several instruments. I was halfway through the third album that I had selected when I heard footsteps coming. “Oh gracious” he moaned once he saw what I was looking at. “You were very attractive in middle school.” I joked as he came and sat next to me. “I would love to see your pictures from back then” he says. Like that will ever happen. “What is that?” I ask pointing to a red box that Ashton had brought in here with him. “Oh well when I went to run errands for my mum yesterday I might have picked you up a little something.” He says blushing. “Well now I feel bad that I didn’t get you anything” I say as he hands me the box. “You’ve already given me enough. Between getting me ungrounded and the cupcakes and the endless hours of enjoyment this is the least I could do” he says. “Now open it” he says. “Now?” I ask hesitantly. “Yes” he says getting impatient. The box was big and red with pretty silver ribbon on it. I gently slid the ribbon off and opened the box. Sitting on top was a card so like the good girl I am I decided to read the card first. ‘Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance or nature's changing course untrimm'd;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade
Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest;
Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou growest:
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.’ The first part read. I knew it well. It was Shakespeare’s Sonnet 18. I sneak a glance at Ashton and he is watching me closely and he smiles at me as if telling me to continue. I continue to read the card. ‘I could have written something myself, but I think Will says it best. Anyway you are the most wonderful girl I know and I suck at writing cards so please do me a favor and agree to go out with me tonight. If you don’t I will be forced to write my own poem and I’m pretty sure that won’t end well. So, Melody will you go on a date with me tonight?’ I look over at Ashton and he is awaiting my answer. “I’m very tempted to say no just to see what poem you would come up with, but I think I will go with yes” I say teasing him a bit. “Thanks now look at the back of the card” he says turning the card over. ‘So I see you have said yes. Well now all you have to do is get ready with the items provided in the box and be ready at seven’ the back of the card said. I set the card down and look into the box. I pulled a beautiful little black dress. It was fitted with a beautiful sweetheart neckline. There was a pretty black bow centered just below the bust. I know a nice dress when I see one and I know this was not cheap. “Ashton I love it, but you really shouldn’t have. I know this must have cost a fortune.” I say looking over at him. “I knew you’d love it. When I saw it I knew I had to get it for you.” He says beaming. He didn’t even comment on what I said about it costing so much. “It’s gorgeous” I say fingering the dress. It sounds strange, but the fact that he could possibly find me a dress that I am this in love with makes me like him so much more. Nobody and I mean nobody has ever found me an article of clothing so perfect for me. I’m very picky with my clothing so he gets major points for this. “Now look at the rest” he says taking the dress from my hands so I can open the rest of the present. There was a beautiful pair of black Christian Louboutin satin heels with a delicate bow on the heel. “Ashton seriously? I have a perfectly fine pair of black heels in my closet at home that I can wear. These are going back to the store” I say placing them into his hands. “I can’t return them. I lost the receipt. And don’t pretend like you don’t love them. I saw the way your face lit up when you saw them.” He says handing them back to me. He had included in the box a gorgeous clutch and my favorite perfume. “How did you know this is my favorite perfume?” I ask holding it up. “I know what my girlfriend smells like. Plus you have an almost empty bottle by your mirror in your room” he says. “You know you really didn’t have to do this. I have plenty of dresses and stuff. You should know because you have seen my clothes” I say thinking back to the time he picked my outfit out for me. “I know I didn’t have to, but I wanted to. This is going to be a proper date and I am determined to get it right. Besides the look on your face when you saw it all was worth every penny.” He says. He leans closer. “Besides I can’t wait to see you in it tonight” he whispers in my ear. I blush and he kisses my lips softly. I can’t wait for tonight.
