A/N: The picture above is Matt! And thanks for all the support on the prologue!
"Later mom" I called out from the front door. She appeared around the corner, her hair was a mess and she had dark circles under her grey eyes. "Bye sweetheart" she said, kissing my forehead. I unlocked the front door and slipped out. My mom couldn't sleep since my dad died, people try and comfort her when they don't even know her, all they did was bring by food and say stuff like 'I'm sorry for your loss' when ignored my mom and dad when he was alive. But inside I know my mom will never get out of this slump. There will be a cloud over her head till she dies.
I walked down the sidewalk, feeling eyes on my every single second. "Hey Lena" Matt called on me. He walked down to me, putting his arm around my shoulder. I could instantly feel more eyes on me, to go along with the butterflies in my stomach. "So are you ready for today's test?" Matt broke our bond of silence. "Oh shit I completely blanked" I blurted out. Matt stopped, he stepped in front of me, blocking me from taking another step. "Lena you have been blanking a lot lately, does it have anything to do with your dad or Julia even?" he said, creases starting to indent themselves in his forehead. I shook my head, I couldn't lie to Matt, I could only shake my head and try to change the topic. "Okay, whatever you say, but so you don't completely bomb the test, here are my notes so you can look over them before chem" he said, handing my a stack of papers. I looked at the notes, not recognizing anything written down.
We reached the hell hole people call school. Matt left my side to go talk to his group of friends and football players. I headed inside, dreading the fact that I have to walk past the pathetic little picture of Julia and her memorial. Everyone had to write something nice about her on a sticky note and place it around her framed picture, I considered it all bullshit, there is no memorial for Amanda but a few notes left on her locker by friends, one being me. But the school had to take the sticky notes off of her locker when a new kid came to school.
I picked up my pace as I walked by Julia's memorial. Her posse of friends lingering by the wall, reading all the sarcastic notes people wrote for her. I finally made it to my locker. I quickly did my combination and opened up my locker. I threw my stuff in and grabbed my stuff for chemistry 20, not forgetting Matt's notes.
I walked into class about 5 minutes early. I took my seat and went over the notes, trying my best to remember everything I read. "Lena, you are here early?" Mrs. Williams said, looking up from the papers on her desk. "Yep" I spoke soft, so I could focus on Matt's notes. She stood up from her chair and walked over to my desk, "Last minute studying I see". I nodded, feeling her breath on the back of my neck. She reached over me, grabbing the notes, "Should have studied before coming into my class". Hope that old witch gets a heart attack. The bell sounded through the classroom and people filed in. Mrs. Williams placed the notes on her desk. As everyone started to sit down and I thought deeper about Mrs. Williams having a heart attack she grabbed her chest and fell to the ground. A few people gasped and stood up. One person ran out of the class, probably to get the nurse but Mrs. Williams would surely be dead by the time he got back. People began to gather around Mrs. Williams corpse, just watching, dumbfounded at all of this happening.
I stood up from my desk and walked over to Mrs. William's. I grabbed Matt's notes and casually walked back to my desk. I gathered my things and walked out of the classroom happy the test wasn't going to be today or tomorrow. As I walked through the empty halls the school nurse raced past me, heading to Mrs. Williams classroom. I made my way to my locker and opened it back up. Matt slowly made his way towards me.
"Well" he said, leaning against the locker next to mine. "Well" I shot back, looking through my locker for something, I didn't know what but something. "We don't have the test anymore, kind of a lucky save for everyone but Mrs. Williams" Matt chuckled, a smirk forming on his face. I giggled a little too, still looking through my locker. I grabbed Matt's notes and handed them to him, "I'll need them when we actually have that chem test" I giggled more. He nodded his head then something caught his eye. I followed his gaze to the front doors, 2 men in suits where standing there, watching us. They noticed us staring and walked away, into a black SUV, it almost looked like the one that was following me the night Julia died.
"Strange" Matt shook it off, but I can't, they where just there, watching, trying to find something, what I don't know, but something. "Ya" I whispered, turning back around to my locker. I shut it quickly and turned to Matt. "So what do you want to do other than sit here and talk and probably get in trouble" I said, holding his hand. He shrugged, beginning to walk to the front doors. "I don't know, wait for last period by skipping" he said opening the front doors. Our school didn't care if we left and they saw, as long as we came back for last period. I shrugged and smiled, walking out the doors.
About halfway to Matt's house I heard a car behind us, it didn't drive by or anything, just stayed behind us. I turned around to see the same black SUV that was at school. I squinted my eyes to see who was inside, it was the same 2 guys that were watching Matt and me. My heart speed up, I turned to Matt, stopping him. "Lets race" I plastered on a fake smile and began to run to Matt's house.
