The Mackerel

{Haru's POV}
On the way home, my heart is pounding, and even after I'm there, it's still pounding. I can't believe I did that.....I'm so stupid!!!
Now I'll never have a chance with (y/n), because now she knows it was all just an act and I wasn't being serious about it!
How could I be such an idiot??!
And why did Rin even have to show up in the first place? Did he.....no......
Did he somehow set that up to happen? Maybe he could tell I like (y/n), and that's why he tried to kiss her, so that I'd have to get her away from him!
Why does he always have to ruin everything?
I sigh to myself and decide to cook some mackerel to take my mind off everything. And maybe, I'll save (y/n) a slice to give her as an apology present tomorrow. ((OMFG HARU WANTS TO GIVE YOU SOME OF HIS MACKEREL THE WORLD IS ENDING))

{(y/n)'s POV}
Throughout the day, I try to forget the kiss Haruka gave me. But the feeling of his lips against mine won't leave me. And I know he was just saving me from Rin, but I can't help but want to feel that he really meant the kiss he gave me. Why does love have to be so stupid??!
That night, I try sleeping but it just doesn't come. All I can think of is him, him, him. My heart is such a mess now, and I don't know what to do.

TIME SKIP- THE NEXT DAY
Get to school the next day and the whole time, I feel so distracted. Worse, I feel awkward, like everyone knows about what happened with Haruka yesterday. God, why do I have to like him so much???! Love is such a stupid emotion!
"Heyyyyy, (y/n)-chan!!"
Apparently the lunch bell has rung, because I turn around and see Nagisa tugging on my sleeve, with Rei not too far behind him. I see kids leaving the classroom with their bentos to go eat.
"(Y/n)-chan, wanna go eat lunch with Rei-chan, Mako-chan, Haru-chan and I??! It'll be suuuuper fun!!"
The moment Nagisa mentions Haruka, I feel very lightheaded and shaky. I see Rei looking at me with a 'what the fuck is she doing' face. Shit, what do I do??!! I can't possibly ever talk to Haruka, or even be around him, ever again! But I can't tell Nagisa and Rei- they'll ask why, and then I'll have to explain everything. Or maybe, I could try making something up. Wait, no- Rei's too smart, he'll know I'm lying!
"....(y/n)-chan, are you okay??"
I snap back to the present and Rei is still looking at me with that face, and Nagisa looks a little worried.
"A-ah, I'm sorry guys! I um....kinda got distracted. I was thinking about what...um..." I pause. Rei raises his eyebrows. "Y-y'know what? It's all good- just forget about it! Wh-what were you saying, Nagisa?"
"I want you to come sit with us at lunch today!! We gotta hurry!"
I nod, but inside I'm dying. "O-okay. Lead me there."
"Yay!!!!! Rei-chan, (y/n)-chan's gonna sit with us!!"
"Y-yeah...." Rei looks at me suspiciously. I try not to panic and follow the two of them to a slightly secluded area near the school rooftop. There, we see Makoto and Oh sHIT THERE HE IS. ((You just had a mini panic attack. You're welcome)) Haruka sitting at a picnic table. I feel my face instantly go hot and I start shaking a little. Nagisa and Rei end up taking seats beside Makoto, who's sitting across from Haruka.
So I have no choice but to sit by the ocean-eyed boy.
I take my seat beside him and feel his gaze move to me for a moment, before he returns to eating.
"Hey hey, Mako-chan, Haru-chan, we brought (y/n)-chan with us today!"
Makoto looks over at me and smiles. "You should start sitting with us, (y/n). We all think you're super cool!" He looks at Haruka. "Right, Haru?"
He gives Makoto a simple hum in response.
"That means yes, (y/n)."
I nod, looking down at my food to eat. At least today I have (f/f).
Makoto, Nagisa and Rei get into some conversation....something about plans over the weekend. But Haruka and I just eat in total silence.
And then, out of nowhere...
Haruka places something next to my bento, wrapped in a piece of blue gingham cloth. I'm startled at first by his sudden action. Then, I just look down at it. The other three Iwatobi boys look over at us.
"Haru-chan? What is that??" Nagisa looks curiously at the cloth.
"....Don't call me that." Haruka points to the... whatever it is, wrapped in cloth. "Open it."
My heart starts beating really, really fast for some reason. I nod, doing as he says. Inside the cloth is something wrapped carefully in foil. And inside that...
Mackerel.
The Iwatobi boys gasp and stare down at Haruka's favorite food.
"WHAT??! Haru-chan NEVER EVER shares his mackerel! (Y/n)-chan, you're super lucky!"
I look at Makoto and Rei for their responses, but they just stare at the mackerel.
"Um....I-I've never had mackerel......."
Haruka's eyes widen and he quickly hands me his chopsticks. I'm startled by his sudden action, yet again. I'm just not used to him being social and interactive with others.
"O-okay....I'll try it now...." Before I take a bit of the mackerel, I look at the other Iwatobi boys. "Stop looking at me like that!!!"
The three of them return to eating their lunches but they keep peeking up to see my reaction.
I take a small bite of the mackerel. It has a strong fishy taste, and a slightly salty and tangy taste as well. I will admit, it is pretty good. ((If you don't like seafood then just pretend you like it. FOR THE DOLPHIN BOY.)) I finish the piece of mackerel and give everyone a thumbs up.
"I think it's really, really good."
They all gasp except Haruka, who's just looking at me. Okay, he needs to stop. I'm going to have a heart attack.
"(Y/n)-chan likes mackerel!"
"I-I just can't believe Haru shared it with her...."
Rei adjusts his glasses. "This has actually stumped me..."
I barely hear them, because that's when I feel Haruka's hand brush against mine for a millisecond before it's gone. But it makes my heart beat really fast and I get butterflies in my stomach.
