Afraid

Chapter 1

Humanity, it's gone like the rest of the human race. I figured that out a couple days into the apocalypse when a guy came up and tried to kill me. He wasn't stable anymore so I had to put him down with a gun I got from my father who is currently dead.

Mother? Currently dead.

Sister? Dead.

Baby brother? Dead.

There all dead.

Nothing is the same I'm out here all alone trying to survive. I have to kill to survive, even humans, I don't like to but it what has to be done.

Right now I'm on my way to the city. I heard there was a refugee camp like thing there, I can't remember. The thing is its safe and I want to be safe. I'm afraid of these monsters, and I don't like being alone, I don't have any family or friends they all just died at the beginning.

I look up at the sky and see the sun is setting and there is no place to stay in guess I'll have to sleep in a tree. Again.

I go to the side of the road and start climbing the tree. Once I found a big enough space I take my rope out and tie it around the branch and myself.

Slowly the world becomes a blur and I'm out like a light.

"Mom what's going on?" I asked, staring at my worried mother.

"Mom?" I tried again.

"Sweetie go to the basement take your sister and baby brother with you and don't come out until I say it safe to come out, okay?" She said while holding my face. I nodded my head and went to my sisters room and told her what mommy said then I went and got my brother. Right before I went down into the basement my mom handed me a knife. "Protect them," was all she whispered and kissed my forehead.

I nodded and went down into the basement. I waited and waited for what felt like hours for mommy to tell us it's safe but she never did.

"Sadie I'll be back," I said to my sister and picked up my knife.

"No don't leave me," she exclaimed.

" I have to. I got to go check on mom." I said.

"Then I'm coming with you," she said following me.

"You have to stay back and protect our little brother." I said

"I can do that while I'm with you it won't hurt anyone if we go," she stated

"Fine," I huffed.

When we got to the top mom wasn't anywhere in sight. I slowly walked my way to the livingroom with Sadie carrying Cody behind me.

What I saw was something I wish I could of unseen.

Right there on the floor I saw one of those things tearing apart my mom. I gasped and it slowly made its way towards us. I tried stabbing it in the stomach then the chest but nothing worked. Finally I stabbed it in the head and the thing dropped.

When I turned back around I froze. Another monster was behind Sadie. She just stared at me with a confused expression and the next thing I know the monster was biting into her neck.

She screamed bloody murder and dropped Cody I just stood there shocked. I went to grab Cody and run but the thing got to him first.

Once it was done chowing down on my family it came my way. I got mad and lunged for the thing once I killed it I just kept stabbing. finally I broke down and started sobbing.

I can't let then turn that's not what they would want.

I shakily picked up my knife and made it over to my mother and plunged it into her head. After that I did the same thing with the others.

I abruptly woke up. It was just a dream, no not a dream a memory. I untied myself. I stayed up in the tree and ate breakfast. A gronola bar.

Once I was done I hopped down and started making my way to the city again.

About an hour later I heard this beeping sound. What Is that?
I looked up ahead and seen a red car heading this way. It's another person. "Maybe there not nice Kira," I said to myself. I hurried and ran into the woods and hid behind a tree.

The car passed and I made my way back on the road.

Like thirty minutes later after that car went by a truck/van was driving up the road. It started slowing to a stop about 10 feet in front of me.

Not going to lie I was terrified.

A man in a cop uniform got out of the truck and started slowly walking up to me. I kept my hand on my gun and kept stating at him.

"What's your name?" he asked eyeing my hand that's laying on my gun.

I just kept staring. Maybe he'll leave me alone.

"My names Rick, Rick grimes. I have a group about 5 more miles that way, it's on a qoury if you'd like to join." He says.

I was debating weather or not to go. I have a feeling I can trust him, but I could be wrong.

I slowly nodded and went to the truck/van. When I hopped into the passengers side I turned my head and saw people on the back. There was a African American woman and guy, a blonde, and a Spanish looking guy. They all just stared at me. I turned back around and stared straight ahead.

It took us about five minutes to get there. When we arrived I saw a whole bunch of people working.

I opened the door and stepped out of the vehicle and when I did I didn't think I would see this person ever again.

"Kira?!"
