Conventions,

Dear Diary,

Okay, anyone who fangirls over any major movies, TV shows, anime, or comics knows about these crazy insane social gatherings for nerds. More commonly known as..... conventions. Even if you aren't one of the fabulous people I just mentioned, you've probably heard of them! Seriously, who has never heard of SDCC or NYCC?! Or, if you're scanning Pinterest for the perfect Halloween costume, you're probably going to come across a post about cosplay, which is what we nerds do at conventions. Anyone who dresses up on Halloween as a person or character from something is essentially cosplaying. Fangirls (and boys) just do it on random weekends throughout the year.

Anyone who frequents conventions knows just how stressful it can be. First of all, you have to make sure your schedule is clear. But let's be honest, most people who frequent conventions have no life, so they have no schedule to clear. We don't have lives. Second, making sure it's actually a reasonable distance away. Is it worth driving 5 hours to go see one celebrity, then drive 5 hours back that night? Or is it more of an inconvenience than anything? Thirdly, MONEY! Conventions can get expensive, and quick. Let's just think of a small scale convention for now. Example: I met Daniel Gillies last December. It was hosted by Creation Entertainment in Orlando. My step mom and I went just on Saturday. Admission for both of us for one day was $60. The photo-op with Daniel was $40. I cosplay (It pays off to cosplay at small cons. I won a $50 merchandise gift card because I placed third in their costume contest.) I'll round up a couple dollars and say it was $10 to make the costume. $20 for gas to get there and back. $40 for dinner for the two of us. A one day trip is now a $170 adventure. Conventions cost money!!!! Fourth, if you cosplay, that can get expensive! Plus, there is the whole debate on who to cosplay as, having the time and skill to make it, the weather comes into play. It's rough and super stressful. Not to mention hot glue gun burns! A fifth thing to worry about it ensuring that you're on schedule the entire time. From walking in the doors, getting to panels early to get a good seat, getting to photo-ops and autographs on time. Having a plan is a must!

But, through at the stress, it's so worth it! Being the nerds we are, social interaction isn't always our forte. CONVENTIONS ARE THE EXCEPTION! You get to show off your costuming skills, you make new friends, who you can fangirl about things together, and you can get merchandise that isn't available anywhere else. Plus, you get the opportunity to meet some of your favorite actors and artists! Or at least you can sit in a seat in the same room as them and possibly talk to them. At least you're in their presence! Conventions are seriously nerd heaven on earth. The next one for me? I'M MEETING DARTH MAUL AND (possibly) MATT MURDOCK! But, I'll tell you all about that when it happens diary. Until next time....

Much love,

Captain-of-the-S-S-comic-con

If any of y'all have questions about conventions, cosplaying, or just want to chat about you experiences, comment or PM me! I'd love to talk to you! Also, if y'all don't know Daniel, he's a dream! He plays Elijah Mikaelson in The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, starred in the tv show Saving Hope, and played MJ's love interest in Spider-Man 2. Can't wait to hear from you guys! I'll attach a picture from the convention on the side! XOXO
