A/N: I'm so sorry it took me this long. I've been busy with school/work, church, family, and writing contests. I had a ton of fun writing this and I really got into the different characters' POV. So, anyways I really hope you like this one-shot. Enjoy! :)
**********
Mike's POV
As thin sunbeams crept through the closed blinds in the fire station barracks, my eyes fluttered open. I glanced at the other firefighters, who were still asleep.
After my stomach growled in hunger, I dropped my bare feet to the cold floor. The first thing on my agenda for the day was food.
Yawning, I tucked my shirt in my pants and stumbled out into the kitchen. I fired up the gas stove to cook some bacon and heated up the coffee maker. After setting out a carton of eggs, I grabbed the flag to raise it up the pole and ran out the door.
While connecting the flag to the nylon rope, I noticed a car slowly swerving down the street. Well, that's unusual, I thought. Keeping an eye on the vehicle, I continued to run the flag up the pole. Just as I had almost finished raising the flag and was about to secure it, the car sped up and swerved toward the flag pole.
What's happening? Is this guy crazy!? I thought, my heart beating, like a horse's hooves on a racetrack.
Letting go of the rope, which was holding the flag up. As I ran away from the incoming car, I glanced back at it, only to witness the metal machine hitting the flagpole.
Something smacked the back of my head and sudden darkness overcame the intense moment.
Chet's POV
The familiar scent of morning air drew me out of my dreams. I smelled bacon and coffee. Breakfast.
As I wobbled out to the kitchen, I wondered who had been cooking. As I entered the room, I discovered it was empty, the bacon was burning, and the coffee pot was boiling over.
"What in the world!?!" I mumbled.
I slid the skillet off to the side and clicked the stove to off. Then I cut the heat to the coffee maker. Not thinking clearly, I grabbed the overflowing coffee cup. The searing, hot coffee splashed on my hand, which caused my to scream in pain. Duh, it's gonna hurt, I thought.
I give myself an excuse to make myself feel better, It's morning. It's normal to do stupid things. Right?
I turned to grab a towel to clean up. My feet slid up from under me and my arm knocked over a carton of eggs. The next thing I knew I was lying on the ground in a puddle of coffee with a bunch of broken eggs splattered on me and the floor. I groaned, "Really!?" as I shook my arms in disgust.
I heard faint voices. I thought, Just great! That means the guys are up. I scrambled to lift myself up, only to fall back into the coffee. I managed to crawl away from the puddle. I quickly grabbed a rag from the kitchen counter and began wiping up the mess. Then I heard a familiar voice say, "What in the world!?!"
"Oh, no," I whispered, my heart skipping a beat, "Capt's here." I glanced up to see Captain, Johnny, Roy, and Marco gazing at the breakfast disaster and glaring at me. "Guys, guys before you say anything, it wasn't me," I defended with my hands up as if surrendering.
"Oh, sure, Chet. We believe you just like the last time you tried to get out of cleaning up a mess. You're always up to something." Johnny said.
"It's true! I woke up to the smell of breakfast. I walked out to the kitchen and found this mess. End of story. I promise."
