CHAPTER 5: WISH ME LUCK

[Later that day…]

Fatima stood at the college’s lobby while she waited for her phone to receive an SMS. Not long after that, two unusually tall men parading into the lobby caught Fatima’s attention. The slightly smaller one, dressed in a suit, wore a chestnut-painted fedora hat, his orbs hidden behind the heavily-tinted Ray-Ban lenses that covered almost half of his face. Lips half-pouted, he sported his chin up high – emphasizing his well-defined jawline by a lot more.

The afro black wig that the other man installed over his head made him appear a lot taller than his companion; if it weren’t for it, he would be described as about two inches larger than the other. He wore a black coat over a silver hoodie jacket, and deep blue denim pants that began with the lowness of his hips. The same Ray-Ban tinted lenses completed his look.

Fatima rushed to the two men and slapped a hand to their arms. “When I reminded you to ‘lay low’ I meant dressing as low-profile, non-attentive citizens! And what took you two so long?!” She growled before pulling the guys to an empty room where they were less stared at.

“What is it with you and wigs?!” Fatima scolded Harry as he slowly took off his afro disguise, but before he could answer, she turned to Zayn and nagged at him. “And I thought you’d be less of a kid, Zayn!”

“T’was all Harry’s idea! Dressing up isn’t my cup of tea!” Zayn uttered in his defense.

Harry chuckled. “Says the most fashionista in the band,” he jeered.

Zayn quirked a brow. “Hey! I am not-,”

“Boys!” Fatima exclaimed. She took a deep breath to compose herself. “Lose the silly head gears, will you?”

“What if someone recognizes us?” Harry inquired.

Fatima rolled her eyes. “I don’t know, Harry. We’ll cross the bridge when we get there. For now, put your shades and your hood on.” She held the hat and the wig and tossed it in the corner of the room before pulling out a Yankee baseball cap. “Same as you, Zayn. Keep the Ray-Ban… and put this cap on.”

They journeyed the staircases of the college, all the way to the fourth floor – where the auditorium erected. Fatima led Harry and Zayn to the back seats and sat with them. “You boys behave yourselves, got it?”

Harry and Zayn mischievously looked at each other.

Fatima sighed. “I feel like a baby sitter with two brats in my responsibility,” she mocked.

In the same auditorium, Alex dashed into the stage where Yuan and his bandmates were setting up equipment. “Yuan, I’m so sorry for the delay. I had my roommate rush my guitar here.”

Yuan beamed at the sight of the girl. “I did tell you that you could use the extra guitar we have here.” He chuckled.

Alex blushed. “I had this guitar since I was fourteen. I’m more comfortable with my own.” She grinned. “No offense.”

“None taken.” Yuan removed the guitar case from Alex’s shoulder and leaned it against a wall. “I believe some introduction should be at hand,” he said as he approached Alex back. “Alex, this is Karenina – she’s magnificent with the keyboard.”
