A/N: I would suggest my readers to go back to chapter one and give it another read as I have made some major changes that cannot be overlooked if you would want to understand the rest of the chapters.
They had some very simple, strict and clear rules that had to be adhered to. They had been formulated by Addo and anyone who violated them had to suffer serious consequences.
No client was allowed to abuse anyone who worked in their brothel.
No worker was allowed to go out in search for work, their only job being the one in the brothel.
They could stay in relationships as long as their partners did not object to their jobs.
The females were not allowed to get pregnant.
The females could not be permanently bought by anyone, unless with the intentions of getting married. In such a case, an amount had to be paid, which varied with the number of customers the female entertained regularly.
This amount would definitely be very high for Amairah if such a situation ever rose . She had a lot of customers, and they would often come back to spend as long as they could afford with her. In such a scenario,5 customers were a lot to take in a day. She rarely had any time free, and due to the nature of her job, it left her exhausted. It was a miracle that she found time for her online classes.
Of course, even though the customers kept coming back, none ever wanted to get her out of it and marry her. She was a prostitute after all. Fit to be a mistress maybe, but marrying her was something that never occurred to her clients. Their point of view was not hidden from Amairah, "She is definitely the best in bed, but the household wants someone a lot more respectable and dignified."
Addo and Agatha had taught her long back, that these were things that she could not let affect her. If these men had come to their workplace, it was obvious that they had nothing that could even be considered respect or dignity. Most of them were anyways already married and had children, furthermore proving their lack of morale.
"Hey Mira?”Addo suddenly spoke.
"Ahan ?"
"Agatha wanted to throw a little dinner party this Saturday for the 3 months that are left for the baby to come, and she asked me to invite you."
Amairah raised her eyebrows in amusement, “But dint she throw a party for a similar reason last month?"
"Yeah! That was because we were left with 4 months back then." He replied sheepishly.
Amairah gave a small grin," She is really excited about this, isn't she? "
The longing and sadness in her voice was so clear even though she had tried her best to mask it that Adoo reached out and hugged her. "Hey," he spoke with his chin on top of her hair, “You don't have to come if you don’t want to, we will understand."
She pulled apart and shook her head vigorously "NO! Of course not! If Agatha throws a party, her Mira will under no circumstances miss it. And it will be great to spend some time outside the bedroom." Then she added," Will there be many people?"
"No, just a few of our friends, like last time. But we also expect a friend of friend this time."
Amairah sighed, "Alright will be there. You house at 6, right?"
He chuckled,
"You know her too well!"
She gave out a small laugh and went on to prepare for her next appointment.
~~*~~
The week passed by like it always did and she was growing more and more anxious by every passing minute. Addo would be coming to pick her up in about 15 minutes as planned. She had decided on gifting Agatha a bracelet along with a very similar, adjustable one for the baby. It was neither too girly nor to boy-ish.so their baby could wear it soon after the birth, irrespective of the gender.
Agatha loved it when she was gifted something for the baby who is soon to arrive. She, like a typical mother to be, would talk to the baby through her stomach, tell him how much she loved him and kept insisting upon addressing the baby as a "he" since she had said that her motherly instincts told her it was a boy. So disliking Amirah's gift was out of question. The cause for Amairah's anxiousness was this friend of friend that Addo said might come. His friends were all nice people. She had met them and they were very accepting of Agatha and her. But she had been to other places and met people who despite being her clients preferred insulting her before spending their allotted hours with her.
Amairah was not somebody who took insults easily. She retorted and commented very cunningly and sometimes even cruelly. But starting a fight at such an occasion was not something she looked forward to.
"AMAIRAH !"
"Shit Addo! Why are you screaming and what the hell have I done now? Believe me, I was on time, it was the client, the red head, whatever his name is, who came late. I did not even get angry for that and -"
"Shhhh! It’s been five minutes since I came in if you exclude the time I spent knocking on your door. You were just so lost, you did not hear the 4 times I called you nicely, so I had to take drastic measures!" he said with amusement dripping from his voice, “And again. Why are you rambling? What got into your pants?"
Amairah looked down while replying, suddenly very interested in the flooring of her room,"You know, this friend of friend. I really don’t want to start a fight but if he says something I don’t know if I would be able to control my anger. I am not cut out for taking insults easily or gracefully. Especially on my profession. It was not my choice!"
"That's all? Don't you think I would have cross checked? You have to give me more credit you know. It’s not just you; I also had to see for Agatha. This guy is completely indifferent to all of this. A very mature person I must say! I have met him once before. Do you remember Shawn? It’s his friend coming over. What was his name now...Ruben! Shawn is bringing him over merely to distract him. He has been through a lot lately and is not able to get over it. So Shawn here is helping his buddy. Now calm down and come along. Don't you how much my wife hates to wait?"
A smile found its way across her lip, “Who would know if not me!?"
