As you left Loki in the hall you slammed your door behind you, putting your back to it and sighing heavily, sinking into a sitting position and bringing your knees to your chest. You wanted to cut him out of your life right now so it wouldn't be so painful when he left. It was a childish and stupid plan but it was what you felt like doing.

You went over to your bed and grabbed the closest book you could reach, but the book you picked up wasn't yours. It was Loki's, one he had left there by accident, and one of the books you had bought for him all that time ago.

You threw it across the room and walked over to your bathroom, splashing some water in your face, trying not to cry. You went back over to your bed and laid down for a while, trying to keep strong and not think about him, but that was difficult because after about two hours or so, The God Of Mischief himself walked through the door.

"Y/N?" He asked softly, stepping into the room.  You looked up at him.

"What?"

 "Are you alright? Are you mad at me?" He asked, creasing his brows.

You turned to look at him and said shortly, "no. What?"

  He looked slightly amused with you. Walking over to the side of the bed his face got serious and he said, "I am going back to Asgard soon. I need to speak to my father. The sentence is over sooner than anyone expected. I wanted to tell you."

Your eyes filled with tears you were determined not to let loose. You managed to sound even when you asked, "Are you coming back?"

He noticed the softest tremor in your voice, despite all you did to steady it. Loki sat down on the bed and looked at you. "I don't know. Is something the matter?"

"No," You said, way too fast. "Please get out."  He looked startled, but did as he was bid, thinking it best to give you room even though it pained him to see you this way.

He left with Thor the next morning and you were positive you would never see him again.  You didn't let him in when he came to you that morning to say goodbye, and you hadn't left your room all day, not even to eat.

At about five o'clock you heard someone tap on your door.  You stayed silent and let them knock. You had locked your door, so no one was coming in.  Or, at least that's what you thought. You heard a small click and the door opened.  Clint walked through the doorway with a tray of food for you and set it down on your bedside table.

He sat down on the bed next to you and sighed. "He'll be back, you know," Clint told you, making you take your head out of your pillow to look at him.

"What do you mean? How do you know?" You asked him, sitting up.

"Just a feeling i have." He considered getting a response out of you a good sign. "You're not coping with this very well," he went on, hoping to reason.  You rolled your eyes at him and asked if there was a point to all this.

"Well making sure you don't starve yourself is one of them," the archer told you playfully. You glared at him, but couldn't keep my smile off your face.

"And I thought you could use some company," he said more seriously.

 "Thanks, Clint." You sat up and fixed your messy hair. "Do you really think he will come back?"

He thought for a moment. "There is almost no doubt in my mind, little one." It was comforting to hear. You put your arms around him and he held you for a few moments.

Releasing you, he said, "I need to go, Tasha is waiting for me, but if you want to talk some more I'm here."  He wiped away a tear from your face with his thumb, then kissing your forehead in a brotherly manner.

He walked out of the room and threw over his shoulder, "please eat. I wasn't kidding when I told you we were slightly concerned about you starving yourself." And then shut the door.

You laughed a little.  You assumed "we" was he and Natasha.

~~~~Loki~~~~
Loki and Thor made their way to the palace to talk to Odin.  Everyone seemed slightly surprised to see Loki back so soon. It had only been a few months since he left and they figured he had got himself into some sort of trouble, which annoyed him.
As they made their way along, nearing the palace, Loki grew anxious with nerves. He didn't know why. He cared nothing for the opinion of his father. . . .At least, that is what he told told himself.
He kept his eyes glued straight ahead as they entered the place he once called home.  He didn't want to see the disappointed looks of the people he had called friends. It was difficult to keep up the facade that he didn't much care if he let himself feel the remorse.
They finally made it to the throne room and Odin didn't seem at all surprised to see them. He asked what the meaning of this was, more out of convention than lack of knowledge, and Thor told him that the spell, and therefore the sentence, had been broken.
By this, Odin smiled. "Loki," Odin said, pausing for affect, "Welcome home."  Loki looked puzzled.
"I want to know what I did that ended the sentence," Loki said after a moment. Odin smiled at him again. "The spell would break as soon as you learned to care for someone other than yourself." Loki got the distinct impressing that Odin was particularly pleased by the scheme.
For all the All Father knew, he would have died a mortal and never returned to Asgard. What was even more cruel is that the one he cared for was a mortal and he, a God.  She would die eventually and he would live on. "I-I don't understand," Loki stuttered, understanding full well.
Odin said, "You have learned to care for others, you can come home now."
"But I-" he was cut off with his own disbelief. "I want to return to her," He said.  Odin looked as if he expected this and said, "then return to her. Take her here if you like.  As long as she can keep you out of causing war and trouble."
Loki didn't know what to say, so he said nothing.  Thor looked like a happy puppy as said, "then lets return to Midgard, brother."
Loki left the palace with Thor in a daze as they returned to the Bifrost.
