The scream didn't come from the forest where Kakashi had said that Sakura and Naruto were training at, but it was toward the village. Mitsuki cringed, as if the sound of the scream, he took out his kunai then ran. I was shocked, this was the first time that Mitsuki had left me behind. I glanced to where Kakashi was, but he was no longer there. Cursing under my breath, I ran after Mitsuki.
When I finally caught up to him, we were nearing the town. Over the distance, I saw black smoke curling up towards the sky. I felt my chest tighten together, I could remember the smell of blood and ashes from ten years ago. Ten years ago, I thought. Ten years since my parents have died, since I last saw him. I snapped myself out of my reverie, breathing deeply, and looked down at my feet, stopping.
"Amaya," Mitsuki's voice shook, he almost sounded terrified. He was only a few feet ahead of me. "Do you recognise those cloaks?"
"What?" I asked, I finally looked up and squinted to where he was pointing at. It was a silhouetted figure in front of the black smoke, however, I saw a splash of red in a peculiar shape. The shape almost looked like clouds. "Is.... What is that?" I glanced at Mitsuki, who had an admirable look on his face. "Mitsuki."
"Yeah?" He glanced over at me, the admirable look had gone away. "Oh, right. Gomen nasai. That's the Akatsuki, I'm suprised Kei didn't inform you about them enough."
Akatsuki. The name was incredibly familiar, and it itched in the back of my brain. There was laughter coming from the figure, and the laughter sent chills up her spine. The figure stepped closer their way. "My, my what do we have here?"
He was tall. His white eyes flashed with amusement once they laid eyes on us, a grin filled with shark-like teeth shone. A queasy feeling in my stomach appeared, I honestly couldn't take him alone with Mitsuki. I glanced at Mitsuki, who who looked calm and collective. The corner of his mouth was turned up in a small smile, his eyes were cold. "You're Hoshigaki Kisame of the Hidden Mist."
"The one and only," Kisame's smile only grew wider. "What're two little kids doing here instead of the ANBU, huh? It'll be quite unfortunate if they come here and they see you two lying unconscious...or even dead.. on the ground."
"You think that we're afraid of you?" Mitsuki gripped his kunai tightly, he stepped forward. "We're more powerful than you think we are. We're probably even more powerful than you."
What is going on through his brain? I stared at Mitsuki in disbelief. I was about to say something, but I was interrupted. "You? Powerful? You're just like Itachi's pathetic little brother. You'll never be powerful than us, kid." Kisame laughed, and brandished his sword. It was wrapped in what looked like cloth, and the length looked as tall as Kisame was. Kisame began to walk towards us, and I felt my heart drop. I unsheathed my wakizashi blade. I let some of my chakra flow into the blade, I gripped my hilt tightly.
Itachi... That names sounds familiar, hadn't I heard that before? I shifted in a battle stance, preparing for whatever Kisame might do. Mitsuki, however, was being cocky, he had a challenging expression on his face, the way he was standing showed that he was relaxed. "Me? Like Uchiha Itachi's little brother? And who may that be?"
I froze. Uchiha? No... It couldn't be...
"Kisame, what're you doing?" Another figure walked in from the black smoke. "I told you to distract the ANBU if they had come."
"Well, they didn't," Kisame replied. "But two children your brothers age came in and thought that they're more powerful than we are."
"Hn, is that so?" The voice sounded eerily familiar, but at the same time it was different.
Kisame's head bobbed up and down. "Yes, Itachi. Do you think we can spare the time to battle them?"
Itachi. Uchiha Itachi.
"I'm going to kill the man who slaughtered my clan. I will surpass that traitor and use my Sharingan---" He instantly stopped himself, remembering where he is and what he's saying. "Amaya, I'm sorry, I was thinking out loud."
"Who is he?" I asked, ignoring his inessential apology.
He let out a breath, "Uchiha Itachi. My brother."
"No..." I whispered, I felt my throat close up. "You... You're Uchiha Itachi?"
The black smoke around Itachi cleared, the roar of the flames still was there. Why wasn't Mitsuki doing anything? Why is he acting like this? She could see Itachi more clearly now, he was also wearing the same cloak as Kisame was, however Itachi was much shorter. Itachi's eyes were dark, like Sasuke's. It hurt my head just thinking about the comparison. "Yes, do you have a problem with that?"
"No..." My voice sounded small, my eyes were already burning with tears. I can't fight, not in this condition.
"I heard all about you." I turned my head towards Mitsuki, he didn't even seem to notice her. It was like he was in his own little world. "Slaughtered your whole clan, left your little brother behind, joined the Akatsuki... You're disgusting."
Something flashed in Itachi's eyes. "And you don't think I recognize your face? I've seen you before, you little delinquent."
"Mitsuki... Let the ANBU handle this..." I was trembling, I was trying to hold back the fear, but I couldn't.
"They're not going to get here in time," Mitsuki snapped. "Just go, Anaya. You're weighing me down."
I stared at him in disbelief. My blade blazed dangerously bright, I couldn't believe what he just said. Me? Weigh him down? I spun on my heel and faced the two Akatsuki members. "Oi! Baka ne!" I marched over to where Kisame was. I was two heads shorter than he was, but that didn't matter-it only depended on how we fought. I pressed the tip of my blade into his chest. "I don't know much about the Akatsuki, and I could care less about why you've come here."
Kisame raised an eyebrow, Itachi was still glaring quietly at Mitsuki. "Do you really, now?"
"Yes, that's correct," I jabbed my blade into his chest again, glaring right at him. And it burned more, causing a slight wince. "I don't care that you think we're children, but we may be more powerful than you. And the next time I see you, I promise I won't hesitate to cut your head off, Hoshigaki Kisame."
I pulled my blade away from him, and Kisame burst out into laughter. "That's cute, you think you can honestly cut my head off? Or even live to get far into battle with me?" Kisame was laughing hard.
"Amaya," Mitsuki said. "Stop that, you're going to regret this..."
"Urusai, Mitsuki!" I retorted, glancing back at him. "Just shut up." I turned my gaze back at Kisame, "I don't have any doubts at all."
"Amaya!" It was a different voice, I turned back to see Shikamaru. He was with the ANBU. "Get back!"
Hastily, I stepped back just as Kisame grabbed for me. Itachi yelled, "Sharingan!" Kisame caught me by the waist, and held something sharp against my throat. "I advise you all to stop right there, unless you want the girl hurt." Itachi's eyes narrowed at everyone, scanning each and every shinobi.
"Amaya," Shikamaru's eyes were fixed on me, I gave him a reassuring look. He sighed and his brows knit, a look on his face saying: what am I going to do to get myself out of this situation?
My eyes met Mitsuki's and I could see the contempt in his eyes. I couldn't read if he was angry at me or at himself, I hope it was himself. Kisame's grip tightened on me, I let out a breath and regretted it. I could barely breathe. I began to see spots, I resisted from struggling, because he'll only tighten his hold.
Itachi glanced at me, and his eyes looked deeply into hers. "You know my brother, don't you?"
I felt my face redden, but I didn't answer. How could he have possibly guessed that?
"You must be the Amaya he talked about..." Itachi observed her expression.
I narrowed my eyes at him, feeling my head go light. "What... do... you... mean...?"
"The last time I talked to my little brother, he told me he was passionate about two things. Killing me and getting you back." Itachi offered her a mocking smile. "I guess he won't be getting you back."
