Chapter Eleven

All three of them walked towards the house silently, the only sounds to be heard were crickets chirping and the dead grass being crushed beneath their feet

"You bit too?" Carl asks Rick

"No" he replies 

"Shane was" Carl says

Catherine keep her gaze on the house though it wasn't close to them, she sighs still feeling her body shake from fear, she hadn't seen someone turn in front of her for a long time. Not since her teacher turned 

"That wasn't Shane. You know that" Rick says Carl sighs

"Used to be" they stayed silent for a few moments

"What happened?" Catherine finally spoke

"Were you guys attacked? I mean, I... We heard a gunshot, but didn't see any walkers nearby. How did Shane die?" Carl asks 

Rick stops in his tracks breathing heavily showing that he was nervous, he goes to talk but immediately stops 

"What? What's wrong?" Catherine asks she looks behind them finally hearing the snarling and growling of walkers

"Oh, my God" She says panic feeling her stomach a herd of about 80-90 walkers were headed their way

"Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go" Rick silently says grabbing both of their hands and running as fast and as silently as they could, Catherine's body was shaking more than ever now. 

Rick pulled them down beside a tree "We... We gotta get to the house, tell the others" Carl whispers 

"We'll never get through that. Can't go around. Carl, Cat, stay close. Go!" Rick whispers back pulling them up directing them to go to the barn 

"Keep running" Rick grabs Catherine's arm before a walker tries to grab her 

"Keep going"

Finally reaching the barn they close the door and slide a long pole through the door handles 

"That's not gonna hold them forever" Catherine whispers as the walkers bang on the doors 

"What do we do?" Carl asks Rick points to the gas cans

"Do they still have gas in them?" Rick asks Catherine

"Uh, I believe so"  Rick nods grabbing two handing one to Carl 

"All right, here we go. Come on. Hurry" Rick says as they scatter the liquid onto the floor 

"Rick they are getting through" Catherine says 

"Oh, shit. All right. Okay. Up there, hurry" Rick says pointing to the ladder as they run over 

"Well, what about you?" Carl asks panicking 

"I'll be right there, drop the lighter when I say" Rick hands Carl a lighter 

"We'll stop some of them from reaching the house and distract the others, so at least we'll have a chance. Hey, hey, hey, look at me. You can do this" 

Catherine shakes her head "That's insane!"

"It's the only choice we have right now. Go on get up there, Carl... I love you. Alright, go, go, go, go" Rick demands

Carl starts climbing while Catherine looks at Rick hesitantly, he nods and sends a reassuring smile, sighing as she climbs up the ladder.

Reaching the top Carl helps her up 

"Hey! Hey! You want some!" Rick yells banging the doors before opening them revealing the flesh-eating monsters 

"Come and get it!"  Rick was ringing the dinner bell for them as he continued to shout and back away from them
