Seven

I burst out laughing. I couldn't help it. My hand went to cover my mouth. He was being completely serious! Who was he trying to kid. A werewolf? And me his mate? What did that even mean! My sides started to cramp, causing me to finally stop my laughter.

"You can't be serious." I said, leaning against my bedroom door.

His eyes hardened. "Renee, I am being deadly serious."

"How can you expect me to believe in myths and fairytales. I mean honestly, did you really think I would believe such a blatant lie?" I asked incredulously. "And it's Anne, not Renee." I stated.

"I don't, and never did expect you to fully accept it when I first told you. Just keep your mind open to the possibility of it being true." He said scratching the back of his neck.

"But werewolves? Really? That's the best excuse you could come up with?" I was starting to become weary. His desire to try and convince me was genuine. His belief that he was a... a werewolf was crazy. "And what is a Luna?" I asked.

"Renee, it is no lie. It is the truth. You have to try and believe me." He was getting frustrated. "Because I am Alpha of my pack, and you are my mate, that makes you the female Alpha. Or Luna. Our term 'mate' is derived from the term 'soul-mate'. The moon goddess pairs two souls together that are meant to be together for the rest of their lives. For me, it is you, and vice versa."

I started laughing again. I couldn't help myself. I tried to stop as I noticed his angry look, but with no luck.

"I can prove it." He growled.

"Right, are you going to change into a dog right here?" I asked, once again getting my laughter under control.

"We. Are. Not. Dogs." He said, the rage in his voice apparent. He stepped up to me. His chest against mine. I had to tilt my head back against the door behind me to look at his eyes. They had hardened from soft meadow green to hard emerald. I could feel my heart pick up its pace, and the palms of my hands start to perspire.

I couldn't speak. He was making me just as afraid as he had last night. I reached behind my back groping for the doorknob. As my hand came into contact with it, Knight growled.

He actually growled. I felt the vibration in his chest reverberate through mine. Quickly I turned it the handle, but the combined weight of both him and myself caused the door to swing open as we crashed to the floor.

Before impact I felt his arms wrap around my waist and head. I felt him twist around and I landed on top of him with a small yelp. My head was buried into his shoulder, both of us trying to catch our breath. His hand reached into my hair and I looked up at him. His eyes had softened and a small smile graced his lips. I felt a smile tug at the corner of my mouth.

"I never knew you liked it on top dear Luna." He said seductively, his hand tightening around my waist. It took me a minute to realize what he had said. I slapped his chest with my hand.

"And I always knew you were a pervert." My smile disappeared and his turned to a smirk. My cheeks turned scarlet as I realized our compromising position. I was straddling his hips, my hands on his chest. His hands on my hips. Quickly I got up off of him.

"I-I'm sorry." I tried to hide my cheeks behind my hair. "You aren't hurt are you?" I asked glancing down at him still on the floor.

He sighed. "No, I'm fine." Gracefully he stood up, brushing himself off and fixing his shirt. "You should probably pack." He said leaving the room.

I ran my hands through my hair. He was so attractive, but a nutter. Absolutely bonkers. But, the way he had stared at me as I was laying on him, before he made that rude comment. It was as if I were the only other person in the world. I shook my head as I grabbed my large blue rolling suitcase from my closet. I randomly threw anything and everything I could get my hands on.

By the time I was done my closet was almost empty and my dresser drawers were pulled open, looking incredibly empty. I didn't have very much to begin with, but to see it all packed into a suitcase made me realize just how little I had. A bang downstairs let me know that dad had just walked through the front door.

"Anne, are you finished yet? I'd like to talk with you before you have to leave." He called up the stairs.

"Yeah, I'll be down in a minute." I glanced at the overstuffed case. How was I going to get that down the stairs safely? With a sigh I grabbed a handle and started to pull it to the stairs. In an instant Knight was there. He grabbed the case and slipped the shoulder strap on.

"I've got it." He said bringing it down the stairs.

"Um, thanks." I said as he sat it down by the door. "You didn't have to do that though. I could have done it on my own."

"I'm sure you could have. But, you just got out of the hospital. I'd rather you not fall down a flight of stairs and end up back there." I rolled my eyes at him as my father appeared before us.

"I'm sorry, Anne." He placed his hand on my shoulder. "I know you're probably, well not probably, you are angry with me. And I understand that. But, I won't go back on my decision. This is for the best, and I hope you see that one day." He pulled me into a hug. "You'll be fine," He whispered. "Knight will take good care of you."

I hugged him back. "Thanks Dad. I'll miss you."

We pulled away from each other. If I didn't know my father any better I could have sworn I saw his eyes a bit glossier than usual. I looked over at Knight. He stood off to the side looking slightly bored.

"You two should probably go. It's a long drive up north." He patted my shoulder and shook Knights hand.

"Yeah, okay." I hugged him one last time. "Bye." I went to reach for my bag but Knight had already grabbed it and was halfway out the door. Without another word I followed him out, not looking back at the house. I didn't know how long it would be before I saw it again. Somewhere deep down I knew that I probably wouldn't ever come back. I sat in the car holding back my tears as Knight pulled out of the driveway. I sent a silent goodbye to my longtime home.
