"DRIP DROP DRIP DRIPPI-" I reached over to grab my phone. "Hello" I groaned.
"Honey, your father and I are concerned" my mom said, "Are you on that stuff?"
"I never did drugs mom" I said with exhaustion, "And what stuff?"
"You know what kids those days used to do, you know I'll never blame you-"
"What do you want?" I asked my mom cutting her off mid speech.
She gave an irritated huff and quickly grew excited. I turned suspicious. "Are you moving?" I asked my mom, "Because you can't move you jus-"
"YOUR FATHER AND I ARE GETTING MARRIED'" my mom screamed cutting me off.
I held the phone away from my ear. Wait, what?
"Mom, you're already married" I told her exasperated, "Have you been to the doctors recently?"
"Honey listen, we decided to throw a second wedding before we die, or you die before us"
"Gee, thanks Mom"
"Welcome, now as I was saying, the wedding will be on my birthday and we would love for you to come, you can even be a bridesmaid"
"Yay"
"And we're enforcing the bring a guest policy, we know you don't have a lot of friends but this is a great opportunity to make some"
"Gee, thanks Mom"
"You know I never liked your sarcasm"
"Do you hear that?"
"Hear what?"
"The sound of time slipping, bye Mom, love you"
"Anna Elizabeth Charkin, if you dar-"
"Oops bad connection bye" I said while hanging up. That was a relief. The next time I see her she'll probably pinch me but it was so worth it. I looked around to find the time. HOLY CRAP, I was late for work. I tried to get off but instead got myself tangled up while falling of the bed.
"TWIIII" I yelled, "I NEED SOME HELP"
"Is the landlord back?" Twi asked as she ran towards me, I could hear her footsteps as she neared me.
I tried to make myself look casual but only managed to get my elbow stuck even further. "Hey, how ya doing" I said when I saw her silhouette in the doorway. She saw and me busted out laughing.
"It's impressive how your the only human being that hasn't taken a gymnastic class in their life but still manages to contort themselves in such a way" she said while chuckling.
"What's also impressive is how much air I'm losing" I replied while wheezing, "Help me please"
"What's the magic word?" She asked me
"You're the only witness to my death" I said and she came running forward.
After a series of twists, turns, and bends in places that weren't meant to be bent, I was free. I got up, shook myself up, and fell right back down.
Twi rushed towards me but I stopped her with my handheld forward, "I need to do this by myself" I said as I was spread on the floor. She slowly backed away and out of the room trying to stifle laughter.
"It's a good thing I have people who are concerned about my wellbeing" I said after her. It took me 5 minutes to lift myself up, which was good time for me being me.
I was now even later and quickly found my towel so I could hop in the shower. But hey, because of my good luck we were also out of hot water, so I had to bathe in freezing cold water in a freezing cold apartment. Which may have been partly my fault for not paying my 11 months of rent.
