"Party at my house. Ten p.m. until two a.m. Be there!"
I couldn't believe it. Jonathan just invited me to his birthday party? I held the invitation so tight that nobody could ever take it from me. Wait. I wasn't in love with him. He's cool. I'm cool. I got invited, so what? No big deal. Everyone got invited.
Haley jumped next to me when I was walking through the hall. "Hey! I was wondering... Did Jonathan give you something or..." I didn't really understand her question but I figured she was talking about the invitation. "You mean the invitation?" She sighed relieved. "Yes oh god, I was afraid you wouldn't have been invited and I would've! I'm so happy! We're going to Jonathan's house!" She was literally jumping from joy. "Oh my god, this is it! This is your chance to hit on him!" What the heck was she talking about? I wasn't gonna 'hit' on him! I'm not in love with him anymore! "I'm not going to hit on him, Hal. It's too late for that." "No it's not! In fact, it's perfect! Here's my theory: he just broke up with Eliza, he's giving a party to forget about her and to show that he moved on, so on that party he's probably gonna get some girls to get over his attachment with Eliza!" I rolled my eyes. One of her many theories that turned out to be wrong all along.
She jumped in front of me. "All you gotta do is be a little slutty, dress very sexy and be around him all the time! That's not a lot to ask, right?" "Oh yeah sure, I'll do that... Along with all the other desperate girls of the school. You really think that's not what every girl's plan is? Plus, it's pathetic. I don't lower myself to a level like that, just to have one terribly unromantic kiss with the most popular guy of the school, who probably won't even ask my name because he doesn't care." "Wow Ally, you make him sound like a jerk!" "Maybe because he is?" "No he's not! You know him! He's funny, caring, a little bit silly but that's how boys are!" "Yeah in class, but we're talking about a party where everyone is getting drunk and drugged. Everyone acts as bad as they can because nobody's gonna remember it anyway." "How could you know? You've never been to a houseparty." "I've seen movies." "Yeah me too, more then you, but... You're missing the point Ally. Every party is about having fun and not having to worry about who you are, where you're from, how dumb you are, how smart you are, how pretty you are, how ugly you are... for one damn night. And all you're doing is worrying about how pathetic it'll be. That's not having fun, that's party pooping. So just forget about your dignity, or self-respect and do what feels good."
I looked beside her with an irritated face. "Please? Do it for me?" She placed her face to where I was looking. "Why are you even so obsessed with me and Jonathan? I've already told you a hundred times that..." "You're not in love with him. I know but you still think he's hot and your life right now is pretty pathetic and lonely so I want you to do this. For you."
"Wauw thanks!" I said lip-deep.
"I mean it, you're pretty depressive and boring... from time to time..." That didn't hurt at all.
"Besides, who knows what might happen! Maybe you'll fall in love with each other and make babies and live in a big mansion and..." "Okay! Okay!" Haley's face lit up. I sighed. "I'll try to say something to him. Can I go home now?" Her face drooped off. "I gave you a whole peptalk for this?" I laughed. "That's all you'll get from me Haley, believe me." I walked past her through the school-gate and I heard her shouting: "For now! Don't think you can get rid of me!"
