In my sleep induced state i could hear the sounds of nature and rustleing was oddliy calming. Shifting around i try to find a more comfortable postition and wonder why my sleeping bag is so hard and stratchy. Reaching out my hand i feel the what i thought would be the hard surface of the tent's floor but instead turned out to be the rough feeling of bark. Opening my eyes i look around confused as to why im in a tree in the middle of the woods. Then slowly everything that has happen comes back to me the more i wake up.
Sitting up as best as i could with my stiff and sore body, I strech my arms and back to try and get some of the feeling back. Glancing up at the sky proves that I have been out for a couple hours as the bright blue sky is now a deep orange from the setting sun. Sighing i sit there for a few more seconds before i heard the tell-tell signs that someone or somthing was heading my way. Scooting back as far as i could i glance down and wait and soon the foot steps are right under me.
"You comin' down anytime now or am i gonna have ta leave ya for walker chow?" Came Merle's obnoxious laughter.
"Nice to see you too Merle.." i say dryliy as i atempt to climb down.
Clearly Patinetce is not his strong suit as he reaches up and grabs hold of my legs and pulls me down onto his shoulders.
"Merle...I can walk you know.." i comment
"Ya but yer feet are fucked up and walkin' around like that will get'em infected."
"Thanks..."I say
We walk back for the first few minutes in silence. I felt surprizingly comfortable sitting on his shoulder and feeling the warmth of his broad shoulders on my legs.
"So ya gonna tell me what happen to cause ya to filp the hell out like that?" He asked me a couple minutes later.
I couldn't help but let out a humorless chuckle. "I guess I just had a break down." I sigh.
"So it had nothin' to do wit my lil'brotha?' He sneered playfully.
"I have no idea of what you are talking about" I lie trying to keep my voice from cracking.
"Sure you don't.." He says and I can literally sense him smirking. "So are you gonna spill or am I gonna have ya beat it outta ya?" he jokes.
I stay quiet an try to contemplate my options. I could either lie or tell the truth. I really didn't want to tell Merle about my sad past but I knew he wouldn't look at me any different and I could trust him to keep quite about it.
"Well? an't got all day." Merle stated breaking me out of my thoughts.
"I...i need you to promise me that you'll still be my friend and swear you won't tell anyone?" I asked.
"Who am I gonna tell? My sewing club?" he snorted.
Smiling at his comment, I take a few deep breaths and begin.
"I had a pretty decent childhood up until I was sixteen. Then I met my ex boyfriend, Tanner. He was eighteen at the time and I though I was in love. I disobeyed my parents and kept seeing him against their wishes and it turned out to be the biggest mistake I've ever made in my life." I pause for a moment then continue my story "everything was great at first but then Tanner started drinking and messing with drugs and soon our relationship was drowning and that wasn't even the worse. I knew I should have left him but even when he started hitting me and calling me names, I still stayed hoping that he would go back to that sweet boy that I fell in love with."
"The reason I broke down was because of Daryl. He called me a whore and it was Tanner's favorite name to call me after one of his nights out drinking, as he kicked me in the stomach after he would push me to the floor."
"What happened after?" He asked.
" He died a few months after my eighteenth birthday. He was high and extremely intoxicated while driving and crashed into a car and died instantly on impact."
