Yona's POV
"Absolutely no" Huan bluntly states
"But you said it yourself Huan, it's been like this for the past 10 years. People have been getting sick and the living conditions don't seem that great" Yun protests
"Chung Lao is not a force to be reckoned with! Almost all the men in the village have been brainwashed and are working as his bodyguards." Huan argues back, "Not to mention the fact that if we fail then the entire village will be burned...."
"How do you know that will happen? And-"
"Because I've seen what happens when people try to go against him Yun!!" Huan snaps, her eyes are glazed over, "I said no. You people can try if you want... But don't drag me and the rest of the village into it" Huan storms out of the house and slams the door behind her
"Tch, we didn't need her anyway" Kija grumbles as he walks to finish the dinner that Huan and Yun previously cooked
"That's a bit harsh" Jae-ha comments
"I'm going to go talk to her" I say as I walk out of the house.I step out of the house and gently close the door behind me. I look around the area, turning my head to see if there is any trace of the black haired girl. Deciding to look around I walk to my left, the side of the house that has a garden of herbs and flowers in it growing along the side of the house. I turn the corner to find Huan who is watering a section of the garden full of a plant with greenish-blue leaves and unopened buds. The moonlight shines off the the small droplets of water that rolled off the leaves of the seemingly shimmering plant. A small, sad smile dances on Huan's lips as she sets the wooden watering can down.
"Hi there Kwang...." She whispers to the plant. I duck behind the corner of the house to listen.
"Long time no speak huh...." A soft chuckle escapes her lips. "Outsiders have came again, the first ones since you left" her eyes start to water again, "I miss you so much" a single tear rolls down her cheek and lands on one of the leaves."Huan-chan?" I step out from my hiding place and slowly walk towards her
"What do you want?" Huan tries to sound annoyed as she wipes her face
"What did you mean when you said that 'you've seen what happens when people try to go against him'?" I ignore her question
"It's nothing" a sigh escapes her lips, "Just leave me alone and go back to those beasts of yours" she attempts to glare at me"Does it have something to do with Kwang?"
"Shut up!" She snaps at me. I take a step back at her sudden outburst
"H-Huan-chan..."
"Stop pretending that you know me! I only met you yesterday! You have no right to be asking me such questions!"
"I just wanted to-"
"I don't care!" She cuts me off, "I have been living in this area for all of my life. I know everyone in that village and they are like family to me. I have seen for myself the awful things Chung Lao and his family do to them and the village, and all for what? A stupid legend!""Then why don't you change it?" I steady my voice
"What?"
"You heard me, why don't you change it?"
"You think I haven't tried? Nothing you, me, or anyone else does will change it. You think what Chung Lao is doing now is bad, that man sentenced my mother to death the moment he came into power. That man nearly wiped out the entire village the last time someone defied him. That man brutally murdered my only friend right in front of me!"
"If you hate him so much, why don't you do anything?" I try to keep my voice as steady as I can manage in my shocked state."He is powerful, you have made that clear. But you have allies to stand by you now. We can win, we can end the pain." I smile softly at her and her expression visibly softens
"And if we fail?"
"We won't" I state firmly, "Yun doesn't call Hak and the others 'beasts' for nothing" I chuckle slightly. I smile lightly at her, "So, are you with us?" I hold my hand out to her.
Huan looks down at my hand as if somewhat unsure but she glances slightly back at the bed of flower buds then back to me. A small smile graces her lips and she takes my hand in hers and grasps it firmly, "Sure, why not?"☄🌱☄🌱☄🌱☄🌱☄🌱☄🌱☄🌱☄🌱☄🌱☄🌱☄🌱☄🌱☄🌱☄🌱☄🌱☄🌱☄🌱☄🌱☄🌱☄
Ack! This chapter is so short! Very sorry for that! I just needed a chapter to transition into the next. I promise that the next chapter will be longer and will have a lot more stuff in it! I also realized that I left a lot of strings untied here, I did that on purpose so other thingy-ma-jigs can happen. Thank you all for your support in reading this and bearing with me here. Please be sure to comment and/or vote if you liked this chapter and I am fully open to constructive feedback or suggestions if you have any. Thank you all so much!
