The temptation was too great.
"Sir, are we close?", Celeste enquired.
"Indeed my dear".
"So, why are we in the woods?".
"Preparing for battle".
"But, M'Lord, I don't want you to be hurt".
"Celeste, I will not be hurt; I am a rogue".
"Don't leave me".
"I am sure that the enemy is close".
"Close; how close?".
"They're near the Fort".
"The Fort".
"Aye, I don't think the Scots know we're here".
"They have spies".
"Aye".
"Then keep an eye out. Celeste will be at Miss Chambers's house".
"And you'll go on patrol?".
"Aye".
And he saluted, and kissed his fiancée on the mouth, and strode forward to attack the enemy all by himself.

"'E was".
"Fletcher 'as cold".
"'E 'as".
"Aye, murdered those kin folk like 'e wanted to cleanse 'is soul".
"An' did 'e?".
"'E did".
And then they heard the sound of footsteps...and they raised their pistols...And fired.
