I cracked my eyes open, only to close them tight. The sun shined so bight into my eyes. I opened them slowly, as I sat up, looking anywhere but the sun. I looked around, realizing I was on the roof. I pushed the fussy brown blank off me. I turned and looked beside me, seeing Riley lying beside me. She looked peaceful as she slept, it was cute.
Memory of last night slowly came back to me, as I watched her sleep.
She steered a little, and then her eyes fluttered open. She looked at me, and closed her eyes again. “Hi,” she said as smiling growing on her face.
“Hey,” I said a little uneasy.
She opened her eyes a little, and looked at me. “Is everything okay?”
“Yeah,” I said, turning around and looked at the ground.
She sat up and looked at me, with a little bit of concern. “Are you sure?”
“Yeah,” I said, smiling at her. “I’m just tired, that’s all,” I lied. I couldn’t help but feel a little awkward, but there is no way I’m going to tell her that.
“Okay,” she said.
“Are you going to get in trouble since you didn’t go home?”
“Nah, I bet my mom won’t even notice I’m gone.”
“Alright,” I sighed, getting up. “Come on,” I smiled, holding my hand out to her. She took it, I helped pull her up, and lead her to my bed room window. I slid in to my room, and then helped Riley in behind me. She looked around the room, looking from one weird poster to the next. “Do you need to go home?” I asked, setting on my bed.
“No, I can stay. Only if you want me to though,” she said, walking over and sitting down beside me.
“I want you to.”
“Good,” she smiled, taking my hand, and lacing our fingers together.
I pulled my hand away, got up and walked to the other side of the room. I heard her sigh, but pretended not to hear it. “Do you need to borrow some clothes? Assuming we’re the same size.” I opened my dresser, and looked though my clothes.
“Emma?”
“Yeah,” I looked up at Riley, she look hurt. I instantly felt guilty, hating myself more every second.
“I ruined our friendship, didn’t I?” Her eye’s looked glossy, it looked like she might cry, but trying not to.
“No you didn’t,” I said, bending down on my knees in front of her.
“Then why are you acting so weird around me all of the sudden?”
“I don’t know.”
“You don’t like me in that way?”
“I do,” I paused, trying to find the right words, “I just, never liked a girl before.”
She looked at me, tears still threating to fall. My heart ached, that I was the one to almost make her cry. “You sure that’s all?”
“Positive.”
“Good,” she said, “so, then, you do like me then?”
I nodded, which made her smile, only causing me to smile.
She leaned forward and kissed me. Her right hand held the back of my neck, keeping in place, and her left hand held mine. She pulled back, keeping her hand on the back of my neck.
I stood up, pulling her over to the other side of the room. “I assume you don’t want to wear what you wore yesterday,” I said getting into my dresser. I pulled out a pair of jeans and a blue jersey shirt that had ‘11’ on it, “Here, these should fit you.”
